“We believe that people are most creative when they feel satisfied, understood and valued.” – 1zu33 Architectural Brand Identity As a studio for architectural brand communication, 1zu33 not only translates corporate values into spaces – it also creates places of encounter where brands can be experienced holistically. For the creative team around the founder Hendrik Müller, the focus is on a structured and targeted creative process: “For us, quality is the common thread that guides us from the concept idea to implementation.” Whether for retail spaces, showrooms, events or trade-fair stands, strong storytelling paired with a keen sense for (sustainable) materials, colours, shapes, lighting and the existing architecture all combine at 1zu33 to create experiential sensory spaces. The agency was founded in 2009 and has been awarded with 7 distinctions in the Red Dot Award. Here are some of the awarded projects: 🏠 During the Salone del Mobile Milano, Gaggenau presented itself in the imposing Villa Necchi: the architecture from the 1930s was combined with an abstract spatial installation to create an impressive composition. A sensory journey that corresponds to the values and characteristics of the brand. 🛋️ Wilkhahn, an old-established producer of office furniture in Germany, wanted to increase its appeal to architects and designers by showcasing its products effectively in a brochure. Therefore, the concept for a virtual workplace and context-oriented storytelling was created by means of a fictional Danish publisher located in Copenhagen’s district Nordhavn. Based on Human Centricity, the spatial and interior design is influenced by its surroundings in terms of content and aesthetics. 🍵 The launch of the new Melitta Group Single Portions “Avoury. The Tea” brand in 2019 also required an administrative area and a showroom connected to the production facilities. The aim of the concept was to connect these areas, to appeal to B2B visitors and to strengthen the employees’ identification with the brand. The building was given a clear architectural exterior with a facade that provides insights into the manufacturing process inside. Congratulations to the 1zu33 project team members: Hendrik Müller, Christian Sedlmaier, Michaela Zehnter, georg thiersch, Felix Stadie, Jana Thiemann, Eva Eberlein, Vianney Lebrun and Kirsten Döpper. Why is Milan Design Week still worth the hype? In this new era of remote hybrid working, corporate cost efficiencies and driving sustainability, there’s an inevitable question mark that hangs over the future ROI of large-scale design events. But Milan Design Week continues to boom (Salone del Mobile 2024 alone had 17.1% more visitors than 2023, a record-breaking 361,000+) maintaining its role as a place for brands of all kinds to state their creative relevance. A synergy of creativity and commerce with global impact, Milan brings industry professionals together for a week-long immersion into design of the near and far future. To me, this feels evermore important in terms of making human connections, but also driving the engagement in physical experiences that stimulate questions and celebrate craft and design. And for a taste of what we identified: - Circularity & waste were crucially front of mind, with conscious brands and designers taking a ‘nothing new’ approach - Cross-modal perceptions were explored using ambient technologies across installations combining sound, light, colour, taste and scent - Spaces reconnected us with nature, as outdoor design becomes ever higher on the agenda - Furniture designers contrasted more commanding industrial metals with comforting communal seatscapes bringing retro styling to our future interiors - And, cultural heritage shone through, as independent designers and established brands reignited traditional craft techniques. Today our team published our series of 5 detailed reports dissecting the key trends, brands and experiences synthesised from our conversations with experts on-the-ground and from the many hundred exhibits we visited.
