You know the feeling when the scissors go from cutting to gliding across the paper? What once took effort and deliberate action seamlessly begins to happen on its own. That's what this week at Brooksource recruiter conference, Evolve, has given me. When you have hundreds of recruiters coming together, passionate about getting people back to work, hearing their stories about the peaks and valleys, there's an infectious energy that permeates your being. For context, the roles of Technical Recruiter or Elevate Program Coordinator are very established at Brooksource but my specific aspect is brand new. To be vulnerable, I have struggled over the last 5 months to understand how all the pieces work together and how my role fit with the existing structure. I saw the puzzle pieces but not how they fit together. I knew Brooksource was serious about their veteran hiring initiative and I knew how to support them, but I was missing something. And then this weekend happened. Not to be cliche post-conference, but I really feel incredibly empowered to be a more impactful and collaborative recruiter. I have a better understanding of how to manage my pipeline, my partnerships and share my expertise within the military community. It's hard to start over in your career, especially later in life. But when you're in the right place, at the right time, with the right management, your scissors may just glide. And if you've ever been wrapping gifts at 10 pm on Christmas Eve, you know exactly how satisfying that feeling is! Thank you Sarah Waskom and Anne Erpenbeck for investing in me, and all the speakers from this week that were vulnerable. I found my rhythm. #Brooksource #Elevate #ProjectPatriot #Veteran #Military #MilitarySpouse #Recruiting #Recruiter #TechnicalRecruiter #VeteranHiringInitiative #ProfessionalDevelopment #evolve2023

Human Resources Professional | Project Management | Marketing @vets2pm | Veteran Mentor | I write what you think. I post it too. I HR differently. So should you.
The one thing I reminded myself 1.5 million times a day in the thick of my #militarytransition from 2019 to 2021..."This is normal. You are supposed to feel this way." Once I accepted that feeling stressed, frustrated, and overwhelmed were emotions that were going to be present during my post-service career job search, I started navigating it differently. Five things I did to navigate the emotional roller coaster of the #militarytransition: 1. I established a one year time line. 2. I defined what I wanted from my post-service career within that year timeline. 3. I defined my definition of success for that year, based on what I wanted from my post-service career. 4. I started applying to positions that were not equivalent to my military rank/title/position. (Instead of HR Manager/Director, I looked for HR Business Parter and HR Generalist roles) 5. I posted, engaged, and collaborated on LinkedIn every day no matter how I was feeling. I deposited into my network before I took withdrawals. If you are feeling like the world is caving in on you, congrats! You are normal. This is normal. Put your best piece of advice below in the comments.

Empowering financial independence through strategic project management and financial expertise. Let’s connect!
Yesterday was a hard day. I was part of a company-wide #layoff from Gale Healthcare. Monday, my uncle unexpectedly passed away. Last year, I was part of a company-wide layoff from Truepill. All of this has taught me a few things: 1. I am strong and God is good; the universe has a plan 2. Nothing is guaranteed 3. Life is short and it's time to focus on that inner-voice telling me to follow my dream 4. People enjoy working with me and I am a respected leader 5. We can do hard things #staypositive friends. Find the blessing in the bad. Keep moving forward, you are meant for great things. #mentalhealthmatters #opentonewopportunities #engineeringjobs #agilecoach #technicalprojectmanagement

Poolside thoughts: Initial attempts at rejoining the workforce have fallen short. However, the time has afforded me time to think back on my career. Today I wrote down two Top 10 lists. Top 10 Managers or second lines I have worked for and Top 10 people who have worked for me. Tried to identify a commonality and concluded that multiple styles, backgrounds, and personalities shared one thing in common … our customers like them or respected them or both and so did I. No. I wont share the list but if you read this, try to make all of your colleagues lists.

Empowering Job Seekers With Skills to Find their "Next Forever Job" and Hire Their Next Company | Career Coach With 20+ Years of HR and Recruiting Experience, Providing Insights From Both Sides of the Recruiting Desk
I am part of a non-profit Board of Directors In June 2022, our organization celebrated our 50th anniversary In June 2023, our organization closed our doors On a Saturday night we turned off the lights and locked the doors. When we turned off the Ner Tamid, my heart broke. When we began the transfer of our important objects to another organization, my spirit lifted – a little This closing was a long time coming. As a member of the Board, I knew what was going on and had spent the last several years adding band-aids, making changes, reducing spending, programming and yes staff, and more. In the end, it wasn’t enough For me, my involvement meant I knew what was coming I knew it was inevitable But it was still a gut punch. Being laid off is like that too. You could have been an excellent performer, You could have been doing everything right, And you can still get caught up in a layoff. Layoffs are out of our control. Losing your job hurts! It is okay to grieve. You have to take the time to process Don’t let anyone tell you how long things should take, or question why you are looking Your job loss, And your job search, Are as individual as you are Find a supportive community Reach out to your network Find companies for which you would like to work Check the job boards (yes, job boards do work!) Find and highlight your transferable skills Closings, layoffs, job losses happen But people are here to help! I believe you will find your #nextforeverjob Even though it may take longer than you want it to Celebrate all the wins along the way Made a new connection – that’s a win Posted or commented on LinkedIn – that’s a win Applied for a position with a targeted resume and cover letter – that’s a win, Yes, even if nothing comes from it Let us celebrate with you! What was your win this week? How can I support you in your job search? #jobseekers #networking #whatsyourwin ----------------- I’m a former recruiter, search consultant, talent acquisition and hiring manager.
