It’s the last week to visit Woodwell Climate’s inaugural exhibition "In Flux: Perspectives on Arctic Change" at Highfield Hall and Gardens - on display until July 14. The exhibit’s goal is to connect a distant community to the reality of Arctic change. Many may never visit the Arctic, or study it like Woodwell Climate researchers do. Art can help communicate the reality of an unfamiliar place. Read how the collaborative exhibit came to be and find more information about visiting at https://lnkd.in/ePs_wpKy (📸 : Kaeli Bennett)

We're accepting submissions for our publication, Mainsheet! Oceans, coasts, lakes, and rivers spawn livelihoods for large portions of the world population. In nearly every place and time, human economies have been entangled with the ocean, its resources, and the transport of goods across waters. The fusion of these topics and their concomitant development – past, present, and future – form the basis for this issue of Mainsheet. We invite original manuscripts that consider relationships among technological innovation and economic development that have shaped the maritime world over time. Mainsheet is a peer-reviewed journal of maritime history and culture, the only publication of its kind produced by an American maritime museum. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/ebHRn7nm

Think #50yearsahead | Preservation, particularly in the US context, serves as a mechanism through which the nation enhances its ability to confront and engage with its history. Through preserving historic places and embracing complex narratives embodied within these spaces, the nation is better equipped to understand, actively challenge, learn from and grapple with its past. Preservation is a conversation with the future and the lessons we learn - or choose NOT to learn - will be ever present 50 years from now.

“At COP15 in Montreal, Canada joined the world in committing to halt and reverse biodiversity loss by 2030 and put nature on a path to recovery by 2050. The health of the Atlantic Ocean is vital to that mission, linked to the health of coastal communities and regional biodiversity, such as seabirds. Opportunities like hosting the All-Atlantic Ocean Research and Innovation Alliance and reports like Canada’s Oceans Now: Atlantic Ecosystems 2022 help guide our actions to protect these invaluable ecosystems and the species that depend on them. Our government will continue to work together with partners across the Atlantic region to protect migratory birds, species at risk and their habitats.” The Honourable Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Environment and Climate Change
It’s official! 🥳 This October, Canada is hosting the 2024 All-Atlantic Ocean Research and Innovation Alliance Forum, bringing together our Atlantic partners to advance cooperative ocean science. Learn more: https://ow.ly/p17s50QLVCs

Fadji Maina, Ph.D. said today at the Ecole nationale du Génie de l'Eau et de l'Environnement de Strasbourg during our internal conference: 'water is precious'. Indeed we learned it all, freshwater is crucial for human life. Water is our most precious ressource. Globally, almost 90 billion litres of water are lost daily, accounting for up to half of all the water pumped around the world. Water that we steal from Nature, water that ecosystem and species need to survive. Thanks Fadji for the inspiring speech about remote sensing tools to assess water ressources.
