Woodwell Climate Research Center’s Post

Hurricane Beryl is the earliest Category 5 storm ever to form in the Atlantic. Woodwell Climate’s Dr. Jennifer Francis said record sea surface temperatures due to climate change foretold an explosive hurricane season. “Hurricane Beryl is feeding off of incredibly warm water in the North Atlantic,” she said. “The ocean temperatures in the development region are about what we'd usually see in September during peak hurricane season.“ Check out this animated map by Greg Fiske. #HurricaneBeryl #HurricaneSeason #ClimateChange
