🗺️ It was an absolute privilege and highlight of my life to work on our first #PermafrostPathways StoryMap covering how my wonderful teammates and friends Gary Evon and Greg Fiske co-produced a map that illustrates extreme tidal flooding in the Alaska Native Village of Kuigilnguq. I'm so grateful to know them both and feel so lucky to work with such wonderful humans contributing to meaningful work in Alaska. Thank you, Gary, Greg, and Sue Natali for letting me be part of this project and for the opportunity to help elevate this important work ✊🏻 📈 Accurate representations of environmental hazards in maps and other geospatial tools are important for community disaster planning and response—preparation that is especially critical in a region where many communities aren’t connected to a road system and are only accessible by plane or barge. 🤝 Gary and Greg's flood map is an example of co-produced knowledge, which is ✨essential✨ for providing decision-makers with the best available science to ensure that government programs can appropriately meet adaptation needs and avoid the risk of under-serving communities on the frontlines of climate change. https://lnkd.in/eZnmPrQB #YouAreOnNativeLand #IndigenousKnowledge #Alaska #AlaskaNative #IndigenousExpertise #Yupik #CoProduction #PermafrostThaw #Permafrost #Flooding #Erosion #ArcticWarming #ClimateChange #ClimateAdaptation #Mapping #GIS #Cartography #IndigenizeTheMap
