Pop quiz: how can you find your dream job / dream client? TLDR: positive vibe checks and no #twinning. I just went to a CreativeMornings at Wacom and was totally inspired by Britt Howard of Portland Garment Factory. She was spitting ideas like a soda, bubbling frothy and fun energy that was as effective as caffeine and sugar 🦄 . She mentioned how she really wanted to work with companies that were outside her echo chamber, as that's where the needle is going to move on issues close to her heart. And I loved that. Why? Because I think it's SO easy to stay with what's easy. What's comfortable. But true growth comes from being uncomfortable. Trying something new. Expanding your self-imposed boundaries. It's one of the reasons I adore working with multiple agencies* (intros below). Because I get exposed to different personalities, ways of working, industries, and skills. At 45, I'm am 100% still learning and it's why I'm not bored despite being a copywriter going on two decades now! Whether you're looking to work for a company or hire one, whether you're a solo or entrepreneur or working for a corporate behemoth, getting along is foundational. Do they pass this pop quiz: 1. passes your vibe check (comfort) 2. pushes your boundaries (discomfort)? But isn't that contrary? 🤔 How can you get both? Quick answer: don't hire a mirror. You don't want to work in or with an echo chamber. Take the job or hire the company based on how you can GROW. 🌿 So we're not twinning 👬 , we're learning. Pick a person or place that who compliments you. Someone who lifts you up. Whose strengths allow you to launch yourself to the next level. They can and should be better at some things than you. Let others shine. 🌟 It only makes you brighter. 🌟 --- These are the three Portland agencies I work with the most frequently: Murmur Creative - focused in the food 🍲 realm, they are the perfect combination of talented and effective, producing comprehensive branding that impacts. SBD Agency - with a lock on home 🏠 and design, they're creative and kind, crafting gorgeous visuals supported by strong content (ahem - that's me!) all the while being super relationship focused. Upswept Creative - self described online marketing 🤓 nerds, these people keep it real with authentic talk, well planned strategies, and consistent concrete output. They ALL pass the vibe check 🌈 . I *really* enjoy working with EACH of these agencies.

Launching a national business. Fundraisers and happy hours. Teaching people how to curl (the sport, not your hair). Up for a Bonspiel, anyone? There were intros and catch-ups and updates on job searches and projects we’re working on, but, as is our usual way, we landed on a topic that garnered a lot of interest, ideas, some concern, and the acknowledgement of something that’s lacking in our region - the idea of a Welcome Wagon or at least a broad resource that helps people new to this area (or just looking for stuff to do) learn about the many activities, organizations, venues, and events that are plentiful throughout the greater Capital Region. Those of us who have been ‘round these parts long enough remember Metroland Magazine. They left the scene just a few years into the www days, but they were the go-to resource for finding out what there was to do in town - who was touring, what exhibits were on display, what events were there for us to enjoy and experience. Even though information is readily available today via our phones, desktops, and tablets, there isn’t a true aggregator of what’s going down. Understandably, that’s a tall task, and our arts and entertainment organizations are already trying to do a lot with less. It’s on us - those who plan, create, and attend events and activities to spread the word - especially to those who are new to the 518. What may be obvious to us may be completely hidden from them. Go forth and spread the word! 📢 📢 📢 Joining me this week were Kat Koppett, Rose Miller, SPHR, Joe Sullivan, Karen Candida-Lombardo, Roderick Sipe, Denise Horan, Dr. Tom Denham, Benita Zahn DPS,MS, CHWC, NBC-HWC, Lorraine Morales Cox, Ph.D., Steven Horowitz, and Kellie Fredericks. The Our Hour Coffee Hour is sponsored by Motor Oil Coffee #CoffeeHour #ProseccoOnThePorch #IJustWantToCurl

How we’re different? Because we’re not just all about business. We care about people. We care about our clients, we care about their families. We care about our team. And we show that by being with them FOR THEM. For everyone out there lookin’ for some ways to celebrate, here are some tips that you can try: 1. Connect with old friends or with your teammates 2. Volunteer. Try to join some local orgs that might need your help even just for a day. 3. Host a game night or a watch party with your tight-knit peeps 4. Attend a local event or gathering.... A block party, maybe?

Catalyzing Post-Traumatic Growth & Equitable Systems I focus on creating restorative programs that spark post-traumatic growth for people and communities. My work centers on bridging divides to empower humans to thrive.
Food insecurity is a growing concern across Pinellas County. We are honored to work with Daystar Life Center, Inc. through our #projecttryton initiative. According to Feeding America's Map the Meal Gap 2020 study, which used data from 2018: Pinellas County: - Food insecurity rate: 12.2% (124,430 people) - Child food insecurity rate: 19.1% (38,080 children) Hillsborough County: - Food insecurity rate: 12.6% (178,820 people) - Child food insecurity rate: 19.5% (61,600 children) It's important to note that these numbers are from before the COVID-19 pandemic, which likely exacerbated food insecurity in these counties and across the United States. Feeding America projected that the overall food insecurity rate for the United States could have reached up to 15.6% in 2020 due to the economic impact of the pandemic. #endhunger

I created the HeyOrca! Stans community back in August which is a private space for HeyOrca’s top engaged users. This community now has 40 active members. 🤩 One of the most important things for our Stans and for myself as a community manager is to foster connections between our members. Because of this, I started a 30-minute virtual event called Roundtable Discussions. These events provide an informal space where the community can come together and chat about a certain topic. Here’s how it works: ✅ I collaborate with the members to get their input and suggestions on what topic we want to discuss. (I love involving them as much as I can) ✅ The topics usually revolve around a pain point within the social media industry. ✅ Once the topic has been selected, I create the meeting and allow the members to opt in if they want to join. ✅ We meet for 30 minutes on Zoom! There are no slides and no agenda. We dive right into the topic and share our pain points around it, resources that help us, and any other advice that the community has to share. After each call, the community always walks away learning something new! It’s a low-effort way to create great conversation and foster that sense of belonging. I can’t wait for the next one! It’s one of my favourite events I run. Big shout out to Laura Taylor, Haleigh Dunk, Jenn Dixon, Sabryna Keller, Ashley L. Goble, Robin Read Griffin, Marie Pearsall, Kristin Bussard, Rachel Niyonkuru, Lorrie Rose, Megan Nash, Sarah LaFemina, and Joanie Leider who joined me for the last Roundtable Discussion! #Community #CommunityBuilding #SocialMediaManager

Activations can be a fun way to interact with your event attendees. They can also be a way to spotlight meaningful ways events can give back to the community. Example: custom seed packets filled with wildflowers that honey bees will love. Attendees take them home and plant them. The honey bees will thank you! How will you make your event activations meaningful? #protiptuesday #eventprofs Wendy Parsley
