We have a new report with a closer look on biomass supply and demand in the EU. There are increasing and competing demands for using biomass in the EU, using it for bio-based products in sectors such as construction, energy, transport, furniture and textile industries, but also reserving it for nature conservation and carbon sequestration. The European Environment Agency (EEA) report, published today, stresses that there is an urgent need to prioritise the biomass uses due to different roles foreseen for biomass in the European Green Deal and due to potential shortage of biomass supply in the future. https://lnkd.in/d6F7is4S

Puro’s new Biomass Sourcing Criteria is now released! 🌟 Its purpose is to ensure ethical and sustainable practices in carbon removal activities that require biomass. Suppliers must adhere to the criteria in order to get issued CO2 Removal Certificates from the Puro Standard. The Puro Biomass Sourcing Criteria are built upon: - an analysis of classification schemes of biomass feedstocks, - an analysis of the major potential social and environmental issues associated with biomass sourcing, and - reviews of related regulations and voluntary programmes - Puro’s experience of certifying biomass-based CDR projects across the world. Introducing Puro Methodologies: Terrestrial Storage of Biomass 🪵 🪵It’s an innovative, large-scale, affordable, and fully additional carbon removal approach. 🪵Methodology focuses on activities that store or bury woody biomass under conditions preventing decomposition. 🪵Requirement for maintaining containment conditions of stored carbon for a minimum of 100 years. 🪵Eligibility criteria include having a net-negative overall carbon footprint for the activity.
