Selecting a character is a fundamental step for some games and can be daunting. Which character is the best? Which one has the best stats? Which one is the best for this stage? 😰 These questions and fears can also be similar to what you face in a professional setting. 💼 Which role is the best for me? What role do I play in this project? What role can make me the most successful? In this Open World Dialogue session, we’ll be speaking to Susan Kath, Executive Producer at ZeniMax Online Studios, about embracing different roles throughout your career. And just like in-game, you must be flexible and adapt to your environment to succeed! 💪 About our speaker: With over nearly three decades in the games industry, Susan Kath has garnered extensive experience in a wide range of roles spanning Marketing, Development, and Production on game titles ranging from casual to award-winning AAA projects for studios large and small. During 11 years with ZeniMax/Bethesda Softworks, she produced several titles, including Prey, for Arkane Studios before joining ZeniMax Online Studios where she is now Executive Producer for Elder Scrolls Online. As someone who has worked in the People space in games for 20+ years I can 100% concur that networking king in the industry
Everyone in Austin, come do game-dev Stuff: https://blog.atxgamemakers.com/events/
You've been in such a wide variety of roles at a number of notable and wildly successful franchises. What would you say has been the highlight of your career to date and what are you most looking forward to in your new role a ZOS and beyond?
I dunno know on that last one - seen a couple build scenarios where one person nearly destroyed latest version of the game, lol...
sometimes working on a project that isn't necessarily my kind of game allows me to be way more objective during development...but I've learned that I can love just about everything at the same time lol
I'm super hyped to go to Anime NYC after seeing Anime Expo news
Looking back at your start with Simutronics, and comparing yourself at the time with other people who might have been interested in working in the games space at that time, what was it about you, or what you did, that made the dev team think, as you put it, "You seem smart"?
How else are you supposed to learn if you don't fail?
Could you get a job in the gaming industry, with an associates degree if you have a portfolio?
Game Producer (All-Rounder Tank and Healer) x-Steel Wool / x-Blizzard
2wspeaking from personal experience, I have three degrees and I only started landing game dev jobs after I made my own game and self-published it...employers care about you being able to perform, not how long you sat in classrooms (necessarily)
