🎉Thank you to Women Health Care Executives NorCal for recognizing me as the Woman of the Year 2024 - it is an incredible honor. As I looked around last nights’ room filled with such accomplished, dedicated, and inspiring human beings, I was humbled and grateful to be in their company. And a huge thank you to the generous sponsors like Kaiser Permanente and Sutter Health 🙌🏾! Our theme, “Dare to Dream,” resonates profoundly with me. It's a theme that reflects the essence of our collective journey as women in this city, in our nation, in healthcare— 👸🏽It reflects our audacity to envision a better world—despite, for example, the fact that women were recognized as property until 1900, when married women had the right to keep their wages and property in their own name. 👸🏽It reflects our courage to break barriers. The first woman granted an M.D. didn’t take place until 1849, entrusted to save lives, and, even then, we still couldn’t vote until that right was won in 1919. 👸🏽And it reflects our determination to create a lasting impact. Women’s activism has shaped the world as we know it. Name a social movement of the last 20 years, and you’ll find women at the helm—#MeToo, ShoutYourAbortion, TimesUp, BlackLivesMatter YesAllWomen, ILookLikeAnEngineer, WomensMarch, OscarsSoWhite, PublishingPaidMe, BringBackOurGirls, SayHerName, and even #FreeBritney. 👸🏽Women are demonstrably, historically, good at movement leadership, organizing, and daring to dream—and we dare to dream big. In fact, it is the struggles women face that make our voices integral to humanity’s collective liberation. To the women in the room last night, your hard work and unwavering commitment to making a difference inspires me every day. Let’s continue to lift each other up, and remember the power of our collective voices. Together, we have the courage and resilience to envision a world where women are valued, respected, and empowered to lead. I also want to acknowledge the friends, partners, allies, and supporters who stood alongside us in the room. Your dedication to healthcare, commitment to innovation, and support for one another embodies the spirit of “Dare to Dream.” Together, we are not just dreamers but doers, creating a future where justice, access, and dignity are not just ideals but realities for all. I’m grateful for this incredible honor.
