I have years of data that highlight the most common reasons Technicians leave companies and the industry and the solutions are generally simple to implement. Here are a few ideas to consider and do everyone a favor by adding your own ideas and experiences below in the comments! If you'd like a full list of ideas shoot me a message. 1. Work/Life Balance - remove the overwhelm 2. Compensation comparable to or greater than trades specific roles. Plumber or HVAC tech. 3. Reducing on-call requirements so that the existing staff can handle – under-promise and over-deliver. 4. Incentives that are genuinely achievable (too many are not) 5. Remove preventative maintenance from affecting financial bonuses - Help PM get done with no negative impact on bonuses. 6. Complete and total Non-contact PTO 7. On Call Bonuses – $100-$200 per week of on call (increasingly common) 8. Minimum time for on-call of 1 hour. The preparation and drive to and from the property afterhours should be considered. 9. 3 weeks of vacation for new employees, 4 weeks after 4 years, and 5 weeks after 5 years 10.
