Putting Thinking First | Helping leaders working for good to make a difference the quiet way | Thoughtful coaching, training & facilitation | Thinking Environment
Today I've got my Further Education Governor hat on. I'll be spending the day with governor colleagues, students and the leadership team of South Thames Colleges Group. We'll do doing a strategic stocktake, visiting classes and talking to students, reviewing our risks, making future plans and more. Why do I do it? Lots of reasons, so to list just a few: - I care about the quality of education and about tackling inequality. Being an FE governor is a great way to do something proactive to help secure great learning for everyone. - It keeps me grounded in the realities of public sector leadership and change which my clients are facing. - I believe it's important to pay things forward. I've landed on my feet and have privilege in lots of ways and this is a way for me to offer my skills and experience to support my local community for the future. Basically, it's a win all round! Here's the thing though. Colleges and schools always need more governors. We especially need governors who represent our student populations - younger, Black or global majority, disabled, LGBTQ+. This excellent video by Justin Placide - Co-Chair of The Civil Service Race Forum explains more about the benefits of governance And if you'd like to know more about FE governance, especially at South Thames where we'd live to continue strengthening the diversity of our Corporation, please DM me. #governance #community #volunteering

Great to be part of this Panel discussion at the #MEW2024 event in Swansea. Key points from my perspective, with a particular focus on The Crown Estate Round 5 process. - We already know lots about key consenting issues. We just need to access and apply this learning in a sensible and pragmatic way. - For existing and future key issues, strategic level studies should be the primary mechanism to resolve them (whilst recognising that project-level studies will also play a key role). - Collaboration is key. From optimising stakeholder engagement to methods of data collection to approaches to assessment.

🎉 Grateful to everyone who contributed at the IxDA Atlanta Discussion Group meetup on Tuesday! We explored the significance of workshops in UX design, highlighting their value in several scenarios: Tackling Complexity: When challenges escalate in complexity, having a subject matter expert onboard is invaluable, enabling the team to navigate intricate issues effectively. Embracing Diverse Perspectives: Diverse viewpoints from team members and users fosters richer insights and innovative solutions. Securing Stakeholder Buy-in: UX workshops serve as catalysts for securing stakeholder buy-in, pivotal for propelling projects forward. Fostering Creativity: UX workshops ignite creativity, sparking novel approaches and out-of-the-box thinking. Building Strong Teams: Beyond project outcomes, UX workshops double up as tools for team building, forging stronger bonds and collaborative spirit amongst team members. How do you use workshops to improve your design process? #IxDA #UXDesign #Collaboration #Innovation #Teamwork
