Meet our #Warrioroftheweek, Sheila Lalani & her Family 💙 Spotlight on: Sheila and her family Weʼre raising £2,500 to support the Visual Snow Initiative (VSI) by participating in the Tough Mudder on September 24, 2023 🏃♂️. We had never encountered the neurological condition known as #VisualSnowSyndrome (VSS) before earlier this year, yet it affects 2% of the population. It was only given its own diagnosis less than 10 years ago. There is no known cure. Due to the fantastic work of the VSI in the US, there exists just one researched and active therapy in the USA today. This therapy has yet to reach the UK. Please support us and help us raise funds for all the people suffering from what is a life-changing and oftentimes debilitating condition so that more research and proven medicine can be put in place for all sufferers of VSS. It is race week & we are running to find a cure. **please donate - link in comments 🙏 ** This upcoming Sunday my soon-to-be wife Minette Bunker & I are going to be running the London Marathon to raise money for Cure Parkinson's. We have run over 452KM in training over the past 15 weeks, testing our capacity to maintain conversation for several hours at a time, and also the capacity of every joint in our bodies. So far we are at £6k raised but we need to raise more, so if you can please donate we would be forever grateful (seriously any donation would be amazing, will put the links in the comments). It is all for a very important cause. My stepfather Peter battled with Parkinson's for the final decade of his life, it severely affected both him and everyone in the family (especially my mother who was his primary carer and shouldered a lot of the responsibility for making sure he was ok). It is a condition that is only becoming more commonplace and I will share some great resources in the comments. Including the amazing podcast featuring Gregory Mostyn's father Nicholas. Around 153,000 people in the UK alone are living with Parkinson’s (that equates to around 1 person in every 350). This is expected to increase by approximately 18% by the year 2025 and is set to almost double by 2065. It is predicted that 1 person in 37 will receive a diagnosis of Parkinson’s during their lifetime. For the last 12 months I have had the honour of being on the Board of BDSRA. BDSRA is a group of people - mostly family members with a child who has been diagnosed with Batten Disease, who work tirelessly to raise fund so ongoing research can be undertaken to solve the mystery of this disease. MOTIVATION: the desire to act in service of a goal. Personal post alert…. I’m pretty good at staying motivated when there are things on the line. I manage a product line and am motivated to get out and sell everyday because I walk our manufacturing and production floor and see all the people working to support their families. In my head, if I don’t sell, they might not be able to continue providing for their families. Is it that simple, probably not. I look at friends and colleagues that have seeming leveled up in the past few years, I want that. Keith Stelter literally had a heart attack and walked out of the hospital a few days later. Doctors attribute it to being in excellent health because he puts in the work. Michael Hance is another that comes to mind, since doing the MS-150 last year he has become a transformer! Dude is training for an Ironman. He challenged me to do the ride this year, so I accepted. I’m struggling though, I don’t personally know anyone with Multiple Sclerosis. I can read about it and see videos of the everyday struggles but my stubborn mind doesn’t translate that into “get your ass out of bed and go ride”….yet. The whole point of the MS-150 is to raise awareness and funding to help find a cure. I have a selfish request, I need names in my head to push me when I’m feeling sorry for myself. Hi LinkedIn! I am not great at using this application. But I did think that in line with the work I do it would be great to share the following. On 5th of May 2024 I will be taking part in Wings for Life World Run! In this moment – while you're reading this – somebody has injured their spinal cord and will be paralyzed. No feeling in their legs, maybe no feeling in their arms or hands either. Immobile. Constantly dependent on the assistance of others. We want to help. As a charity foundation, Wings for Life supports cutting-edge research worldwide. Our big goal: To find a cure for spinal cord injury. At the Wings for Life World Run, everyone starts at the same time, worldwide. Professional athletes, fun runners and total beginners are all in it together against the Catcher Car. The moving finish line, the Catcher Car begins its pursuit 30 minutes after the start, passing runners and wheelchair users one after the other until the race is over. The best bit? 100% of all entry fees and donations goes directly to spinal cord research to find a cure for spinal cord injury. It’s all about running for those who can’t. Congratulations #Segs! I'm so proud of my younger brother. A veteran participant of the Access Bank Plc sponsored #Lagos Marathon, Segun successfully completed the #London Marathon on Sunday. After training vigorously for months, he woke up feeling ill on race day, of all days. #Quoting Segs, "Thanks so much again to everyone who donated towards my London Marathon fund raising for Stroke Association. We raised £2476. So proud of you all. YOU ARE AMAZING!! Sunday’s race didn’t go according to plan, as I was in absolute agony from mile 14 onwards ( I got warning signs at mile 11, but foolishly ignored them and stuck to my race strategy), and very nearly threw in the towel at mile 17. I still have no idea what happened or why it happened. At mile 18/19, I finally accepted reality and adjusted my goal of breaking my personal best time; realising that I wasn’t running for me, but for those recovering from stroke, and for all you guys who donated." Our late #mother suffered 3 strokes in her lifetime. The first, at the relatively young age of 49. Segun's ordeal does tell us something though. Very often in life, we appear to hit a brick wall. Nothing appears to be going according to plan. We're tired. We're fed up. We find ourselves at the edge of giving up. But then driven by a #goal that's bigger than ourselves, we forsake our personal comfort, endure the pain, temporarily lay down the limitations of our own ability, and soldier on. From no where but somehow, unseen forces show up to haul us across the #finish line. #londonmarathon #stroke #determination #victory

Brace yourselves for a post completely unrelated to work! Today, we're diving into one of my rare LinkedIn themes... Kombucha and Diabetes. Yep, they've been occupying a lot of space in my mind lately. And today, it's all about the diabetic theme! 😂 Let's chat about donations. I get it, giving isn't always easy, and trust me, I've scrolled past my fair share of donation requests without taking action. But that's ok! If donating isn't feasible for you right now, I urge you to take a moment to educate yourself. Head over to the pages of JDRF UK Diabetes UKAction4Diabetes (A4D) and learn just one thing about Type 1 Diabetes. It's a condition that profoundly impacts daily life, yet awareness often falls short. Now, onto the marathons. Yes, in a matter of weeks, I'll be tackling the Rome Marathon followed by the London Marathon just a month later. Why? Because I'm deeply committed to showcasing that Type 1 shouldn't hinder anyone's aspirations. I'm also driven by the urgent need to find a cure within my lifetime, rather than new technology. Running with the added challenge of Type 1 Diabetes isn't a walk in the park, but it's imperative to raise awareness and funds for research towards a cure. For better or worse, LinkedIn has evolved into a powerful platform for spreading awareness. I'd love to draw your attention to the fundraising that my good friend Joe Fitzgibbon is doing for My Name'5 Doddie Foundation. Joe is running in the London Marathon on 21st April and whilst I wish I wasn't the focal point of his fundraising story, I am moved that he would run for this cause and be part of Team Doddie 💙 💛 💙 for the race. Joe has set an ambitious fundraising target of £2000. I know that many of you have dug deep into your pockets already this year to support the fight against MND - we collectively raised a fantastic amount of money for Doddie Aid in January. If 400 people put forward £5, 200 people contribute £10, or 100 people give £20, 40 people could find £50 or 20 donated £100 (and so on) then we would help Joe hit this target and hopefully sail on past it. It won't take many people to make a small contribution and soon that target will be smashed! How can you help? Think if it in simple terms that from now until April:- - You could skip a few takeaway coffees ☕ - Call time on a night out to save on a couple of pints 🍺 - If you don't already, why not make your own packed lunch for a week? 🍲 - Find something else in your weekly or monthly budget to pause 🚨 - Failing all that, invest in a ticket for the £64m Euromillions draw and hope it's a lucky one! 🎟 Even if you don't know him personally, we are all in this together to break ground against MND in 2024 and beyond. Take it from me, you don't want to be diagnosed with this condition and you don't deserve to be given the same prognosis I have been. Let's stick together and show that humans can be capable of remarkable things. From an athletic point of view, I also want to let you know that Joe finished top of our Doddie Aid league, logging almost 240 miles in the process through running in wind, rain and cold. He ran an unbelievable 2:44:13 in the 2023 Paris Marathon (only 31:02 quicker than my best time!) and with your support and encouragement, I'm sure he'll be looking to improve this in London. Hi everyone,   For much of the past 8 years our oldest child, who turns 21 next month, has been bedridden almost 24 hours a day with an illness called ME/CFS (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome), too unwell to even have visitors. There have been periods of improvement, followed by another relapse.   ME is a very complicated illness that in essence restricts the human body’s ability to regenerate energy. Even dealing with sounds, and daylight can become exhausting and potentially painful. It is often caused by a simple virus that leads to long-lasting debilitation. More recently, Long COVID has shown similarities – a virus leading to exhaustion.   It is estimated ME effects more than 200,000 Australians to varying degrees, people of all ages and persuasions. Some battle their way through the day, others are severely impacted to the point of not being able to feed or clean themselves. Most do not have the energy to call a doctor and discuss their situation, let alone visit one.   It is estimated that the cost of ME/CFS to the Australian economy is around $14b annually.   Emerge Australia is the national patient organisation for people with ME/CFS and Long COVID and they are desperately seeking help to support their services for ME patients.   We would greatly appreciate any small donation you can provide via the Emerge Australia fundraising page on the Sydney and Melbourne marathon websites.    Simply go to one of the two links below and click on the ‘donate’ page.
