Stumbled upon this deeply reflective article from The Economist and was left feeling a bit saddened! Sharing a few highlights/reflections: 1. We often take our mothers' and wives' love for ‘granted’, and do not realize that it is a choice they are making, which we should not only reciprocate but also express gratitude towards them "daily" 2. “While men may do their part in condemning sexism and misogyny, it wouldn’t occur to them to take on unpaid care work for the family.” ⇒ I have this in my own circles itself, many well educated progressive men would do all the nice talking sitting on the couch, but never do care work at home. 3. “A self-proclaimed liberal father may express outrage on hearing about discrimination against women and preach the importance of gender equality. But the same father allows his wife, unconsciously and without malice, to carry the bulk of the labour of care.” ⇒ It's a form of lip-service feminism where actions fail to match words. We as men, need to lead the change by our actions, that begin at our own homes itself. 4. “I can fully understand that women might feel it’s easier to bear the burden themselves than to keep on arguing with their husbands”. ⇒ I had seen this tendency ample in my parents generation where mothers had kind of given up. But its disheartening when I observe similar patterns persisting among some of my peers, even within some parts of my extended family too, where I see women giving up on men in marriages and continue to bear the burden accepting it as their destiny, signaling a resignation to unequal norms within marriages :( :( If any of this strikes a chord with you, share your thoughts or leave a 😢 emoji. -- My notes: https://lnkd.in/g6jykYx4 Article: https://lnkd.in/gmFUwZJF

🤸♀️ We don’t talk enough about the gender leisure gap. Whether it’s childcare, caring for older parents or doing more household chores, every week women have less leisure time than men. This has knock-on effects. Leisure time is important for our mental and physical wellbeing, it enhances creativity, and lack of it negatively impacts productivity. Thank you World Economic Forum for this important post highlighting the gender gap in unpaid care work. At 3 Sisters Ventures (“3SV”) Collective we invest in start-ups that are helping to close this gap. We’re particularly interested in Family Tech solutions focusing on care that help make the lives of women easier. 📱Please do get in touch if you're a founder in this space. #familytech #gendersmart
