🔸 I'm excited to share that I have just completed the course “Adequate food: the human right of us all”! This course has been incredibly interesting, informative, and useful. 🔸
Throughout the course, we delved into the foundational concepts, origins, and principles of human rights. We explored the intricacies of the right to adequate food, understanding its essential components, guiding principles (PANTHER), and its interconnection with other fundamental human rights such as the right to life, health, water, and adequate housing.
We also examined the obligations of states and other actors in ensuring this right, the legal frameworks needed for its protection, and the importance of public policies, budgets, and monitoring strategies. Special emphasis was placed on protecting the rights of vulnerable groups and the role of society in upholding the right to adequate food.
Key takeaways include:
📌 Human rights are universal, inalienable, indivisible, interrelated, and interdependent.
📌 The right to adequate food encompasses availability, stability, accessibility, sustainability, and adequacy.
📌 Realizing this right requires a comprehensive strategy, involving legal recognition, policy implementation, and active participation from all societal sectors.
📌 Special protection measures are essential for vulnerable groups and during emergencies.
I highly recommend this course to anyone interested in human rights and food security. Thank you to the instructors and the FAO Right to Food Unit and the Development Law Service (LEGN) of FAO’s Legal Office for this enriching experience!
