Fascinating podcast with A Rational Fear and David Roberts of Volts about the energy transition and energy policy. As Roberts puts it, “The message of the IRA is that the era of free trade, free-market neoliberalism is over…and the US is taking active measures to shape its place in the (global renewable energy) economy. Other nations need to do the same.” #renewableenergy #energytransition

The Environment China podcast this week looks at some important recent policy recommendations from a team at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change & the Environment, who call for China to adopt what they call a "new development strategy," with thorough changes to policy in a variety of sectors and fields. In this episode, I talked with Chunping Xie, Senior Policy Fellow at Grantham, and we discussed whether a changed paradigm is necessary and whether this is widely recognized by China's leaders and public. The most interesting part of our discussion, from my perspective, was about public awareness of climate change and whether the recent emphasis on energy security might detract from the need to send appropriate signals to the public and major economic sectors about the importance of making larger changes. The podcast (and a summary of content) is here: https://lnkd.in/e_BWuGzK The original report is entitled: "Embracing the new paradigm of green development." #china #chinaenergy #sustainabledevelopment #podcast

Our CEO, Ana Hajduka, recently featured in episode 9 of The Current podcast, hosted by Iman Rappetti, alongside Ziyaad Sarang (Revego's CIO) and Brian Irvine (Investec's global head of Export and Agency Finance). They discussed the crucial steps needed to mobilize the capital required to electrify Africa. 💡🔌 Some of the points Ana made include: 🗣️ On Africa's Energy Deficit: The significant financial challenges faced by state utilities hinder their ability to act as creditworthy buyers without sovereign support. This model needs to change to ensure sustainable growth in new generation capacity. 🌿 On Climate Change and Economic Interests: It's about more than just mitigating climate change. The convergence of economic interests, quicker implementation, and private sector leadership are driving the renewable energy transition, especially in South Africa. 🎙 For a deeper dive into these critical topics, listen to the full episode: https://lnkd.in/dC7QgMht 🎙 #AfricaGreenCo #EnergyTransition #RenewableEnergy #SustainableDevelopment #AfricaElectrification #ClimateChange

Politicians may claim that the UK is on its way to net zero, but the potential closure of the Grangemouth oil refinery illustrates why the seemingly good numbers are not quite what they appear. https://lnkd.in/eEvvhBQe To receive my papers/podcasts, sign up to my mailing list: https://bit.ly/3IxFYY5. #NetZero #sustainableeconomy #climatechange
