Important updates to North Carolina’s ABC laws! The General Assembly just passed the ABC Omnibus bill, Senate Bill 527, which brings numerous changes to the ABC laws in North Carolina. Industry members may be impacted by reforms and new permitting processes, changes to excise tax provisions and advertising spending caps. The bill also provides updates regarding mixed drinks and wine to-go, expanded hours of operation during holidays and much more. The Supreme Court recently overruled the 40-year-old Chevron doctrine of judicial deference given to administrative agency actions. The court stated that federal courts no longer must defer to an administrative agency’s interpretation when a law or statute is silent or ambiguous on an issue. This decision could potentially reshape enforcement and rulemaking for numerous regulated entities. United States?   The recent 7-2 decision by the Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of the mandatory repatriation tax, also known as the “transition tax,” imposed under Section 965 of the Internal Revenue Code.
