Cannot believe it is 6-months already🖤 Today, I successfully completed my very *1st real-task* at AWS Connect and this is how we celebrated it - *With a GONG*! After a successful run as a Summer Intern at Amazon Web Services (AWS) in 2022, I started working as a full-time developer with Amazon from February-2023 and completed 6-months recently. Working in Amazon's AWS Connect in these 6-months has surely taught me a lot, but today I would like to share the top 6 key-takeways: 1. Thinking up new ideas and trying out new methods can lead to high-quality results! 2. It is okay to get out of your comfort zone and try out new things at work without leaving your authentic self. 3. Never expect the big changes to happen overnight. 4. Set up short-term and attainable goals without losing the focus from the bigger picture 5. Team collaboration and support, matters. 6. At the end of the day, it is always about results. Unveiling My Month-Long Journey as an SDE Intern at Amazon AWS 🚀 Greetings, LinkedIn community! 👋 Today, I am thrilled to share some insights and experiences from my first month as a Software Development Engineer (SDE) intern at Amazon AWS. So, buckle up and let's get started! 😉 1. SDE: Beyond Coding 🖥️ Think an SDE's life is all about coding? Think again! 😄 At Amazon, we own our code completely, which implies system design and ensuring each line of code works flawlessly. Moreover, we're encouraged to sense the product, akin to nurturing your little one. Isn't that exciting? 🚀 2. Internal Documentation: Your Best Ally 📚 The vast repository of internal documents at Amazon is like an unexplored treasure chest 🏦. Initially, I found them daunting but soon realized that a meticulous read unlocks a door to profound knowledge, solving many challenges. Patience is key here! 🔑 3. Fearless Questioning: The Road to Answers 🎙️ Questioning is an art at Amazon 🎨. We endorse everyone's right to raise queries. However, before you do, make sure you've put your best foot forward. Present your problem, elaborate on your efforts to solve it, and then explain why you're stuck. This way, your question becomes an open invitation for others to help you find the answer. 💡 4. Efficiency ≠ Speed ⏳ This was a pivotal lesson I learned during Code Review. In an attempt to be swift, I made multiple submissions, only to realize it wasted both my time and my team's due to recurring minor issues. Shifting strategies, I dedicated an entire day to thoroughly inspect my code, and voila, it was accepted in a single attempt! Therefore, remember, speed doesn't equate to efficiency; rather, attentiveness can lead to better outcomes. 🌟 In a nutshell, my one-month internship at Amazon AWS has been nothing short of transformative, broadening my technical knowledge and honing my soft skills. I firmly believe this experience will leave a lasting impact on my future. I hope my journey inspires you and provides some valuable insights. Authentic and practical insights on how to succeed at AWS from current interns.

Excited to share that this summer I have returned to Amazon Web Services (AWS) as a Software Development Engineer Intern! Just 2 years ago I would have never believed that I could make a career transition from military to SDE. Military transitions are really hard for the service-member and their family. There are so many variables that one needs to think about before deciding to leave the military. For me, the goal was clear: I wanted to break into software development. Despite learning to code on weekends, not having a college degree felt like a significant barrier. As I practiced coding interviews during lunch hours and weekends, the military had a new program called DoD-SkillBridge, which allowed transitioning service members to work for any company that wanted to train service members in a given career field while on terminal leave, (paid by the military). Like all military transitions in general, it is the responsibility of the service member to interview for the company, onboard the company if necessary, talk with Education office, start the process of transitioning, prepare for the interview while serving full time on active-duty, and explain the process to supervisors or commanders. It was overwhelming but I can certainly say that partaking in the skill-bridge with Amazon Web Services (AWS) was the best decision I have made, apart from deciding to serve this amazing country 🇺🇸 I’m sharing this not just to celebrate my journey but to offer support and insight to fellow service members considering a similar transition.
