I found this article surprisingly illuminating, especially as we head towards these important elections. I also think it would read more poignantly next to mphutlane bofelo Wa Bofelo's recent piece which begins: "Without a qualifier, the slogan "your vote is your power" is a deluding and disempowering message and strategic manoeuvre in favour of the ruling and propertied classes." - Bofelo.

On June 1, 1869, Thomas Edison received a patent for his invention of an electrographic vote recorder for legislators. Although it was not considered a success as it was deemed to be too slow and was never used by governments, it marked the start of Mr. Edison's patenting career as it was his first of 1,093 patents! 🇪🇺 This is a quick reminder for our European readers that the European Parliament election, which takes place once every 5 years, will be held from June 6 to 9, 2024. Democracy remains as important as ever, so we hope for a good turnout! #vote #europa #useyourvote #eu #euelections2024 #europeanparliament #democracy #innovation #inventor #Edison #intellectualproperty #patents #fridaymood

Running for Congress is a big job that entails domestic and international policy in a full spectrum of subjects, as well as serving consituents with wide-ranging interests relating to government services. Should one win election, he or she needs to be prepared to delve into a host of issues with some level of understanding. Getting "policy chops" can be critical to one's success in the job. How versed are your politicians in world geography? military entanglements? international affairs? energy policy? healthcare providing? economics? education? library services? emerging technologies? the bureaucratic structure of the federal government? the court system (in RE judicial appointments)? How capable are they in following Robert's Rules and other legislative procedures? Are they adept at questioning witnesses? at speechmaking in the well and on the stump? There are still numerous primaries left and the major general election campaign yet to go this year. Are the country's various constituencies prepared to vet candidates to yield an effective legislative body (not to mention a capable chief executive)? #elections2024 #congress #legislature #ushouse #ussenate

There are new changes to the way #ERC proposals will be evaluated in 2025 and also to the template itself. One of the changes is about the #narrativeCV and another is the evaluation of the proposed project. The most striking change is that they dropped the high risk / high gain criterion, which was confusing especially in the Humanities and Social Sciences. Politics is to serve The modus operandi of politics has changed substantially. We can't blame the politicians only for this change. Technology does what society wants. Similarly politicians do what people want. We think about our date of birth the day we fill our board exam form. We think about politics the days elections are held. Politics is much beyond acquiring individual power. In a fast changing world it is very important to understand that politics is to strengthen the power of the people.
