The future is lead-free – Our steadfast dedication to shaping a lead-free future is a testament to our commitment to excellence, innovation, and sustainability. We are tirelessly working to develop more eco-friendly products, as the legal requirements for avoiding lead as an alloying element have become increasingly stringent. In view of this, we are researching how to make copper alloys easier to machine and form, while ensuring properties such as conductivity and corrosion resistance are retained. In the last fiscal year, we saved a total of 1.4 million kg of lead compared with the previous year. Starting from the base year 2020/21 with 6.4 million kg of lead, we aim to reduce the lead content in alloys produced for our foundries to 4.5 million kg by 2029/30 – a reduction of 30%, which we have already nearly achieved. Last week, we launched a product line that not only aligns with our sustainability efforts but also offers significant benefits. Our lead-free machining brass, ecoline®, is a perfect example. The new product family, and eco SZ3® in particular, meets the highest industry requirements, making it an attractive alternative to leaded brass. It offers best machinability, excellent hot formability, and highest economic efficiency, paving the way for a more sustainable and prosperous future. We are excited to announce the groundbreaking of our new copper recycling center at Wieland's Vöhringen site. This expansion, representing an investment of around 80 million euros, is a significant step in our commitment to sustainability and decarbonization. The new center will employ cutting-edge technology to process copper scrap, raising our global recycling rate to over 80% upon commissioning. This project is pivotal in our strategy to achieve greenhouse gas-neutral production by 2045, complemented by the electrification of our plants and the use of renewable energy. Vöhringen, a strategic base for Wieland, is crucial in terms of material supply. From here, plants throughout Europe and parts of Asia are supplied with high-quality semi-finished copper products. This investment will also create 25 new jobs, reinforcing our confidence in the site’s potential.
