I was so grateful to be able to assemble and moderate a panel of incredible speakers at IPSS 2024 in Vancouver on June 5, 2024. We discussed how leaders are encouraged to make the equity decision, how communities can drive benefits such as training, education, and development, and how can partnerships measure success. I'm still buzzing from the opportunity to see Jude and Marcus speak 2 weeks ago. I left the event inspired about the work that we do and how to continue to push the conversations forward on how we treat and use data in our day to day work. As Dr. Marcus Collins challenged us..."We don't see the world as 'what' it is, we see the world as "WHO we are". Noodling on that will expand your horizons of how you approach the work that you do regardless of part of the 'organization' you are with. I'm left with these additional nuggets of wisdom from the talk from both Dr. Marcus Collins and Judith Carr-Rodriguez... 1 - Consumption is a CULTURAL act. 2 - Don't mistake information for intimacy. 3 - Shakespeare was right - "All the world's a stage, and we are merely [SOCIAL] actors." 4 - Stories of 'failure' generally result in stories of innovation. 5 - Don't confuse kindness with weakness. 6 - Good storytelling and creativity is 'messy' - it is likely clear at the beginning, messy in the middle and magical by the end. 7 - The messy middle is necessary! 8 - Sometimes the obvious isn't obvious until it's pointed out. #alwayslearning #4As

Let's talk about hidden challenges and how we overcome them. JCSU is a part of the very first Florida Beach Bowl. I let the Beach Bowl's marketing team know that I'd like our communication to be specific to JCSU and lead people to www.GoldenBullSports.com to purchase their tickets. After getting the OK to modify their materials, I reached out to resident hype man Ryan Thurman who graciously gave up his time to come to my office and record three different scripts for three separate videos that can be used to market the event. So how do we face hidden challenges? 1. Take initiative to overcome the challenges yourself. Don't wait for a magical cure or feel like you can't take action yourself. 2. Ask for help when you need it. 3. Invest time in your furthering your talents. You never know what talents you'll need to employ to overcome your challenges. 4. Become comfortable with the fact that the effort you put in won't always be seen for the labor of love that it was. 5. Build relationships with people who are willing to help in the midst of your challenges. I hope this helps anyone who is struggling to overcome hidden challenges in the workplace.
