White House Historical Association’s Post

Yesterday, the White House Historical Association partnered with U.S. embassies, consulates, and cultural organizations for the 3rd annual Presidents' Day Wreath Laying. Wreaths were placed at presidential statues and monuments, honoring the history of American presidents globally and underscoring the meaningful leadership that each memorial represents. “The significance of the wreath laying extends beyond the American holiday, Presidents’ Day,” said Stewart D. McLaurin, president of the White House Historical Association. “It’s a testament to the deep personal and cultural ties U.S. presidents have to nations overseas.” The tradition began in 2022 when the Association worked with the U.S. Consulate in Edinburgh, Scotland to place a wreath at the statue of Abraham Lincoln. Since then, it has expanded to over 13 countries, including England, Scotland, Argentina, Ireland, Canada, Norway, and Mexico. This year, The Friends of the White House Historical Association marked their inaugural event with a wreath laying in honor of President John F.  Kennedy at Eyre Square in Galway, Ireland. The Presidents’ Day wreath layings are a reminder of the strong connections American presidents continue to foster with counterparts across the globe.
