The nonprofit world is competitive and staff bandwidth is often limited and overstretched. This can make fundraising throughout the year difficult, but there is a way to combat these obstacles. How you may ask? With a fundraising development plan! A fundraising development plan is a strategic roadmap that guides nonprofits toward achieving their fundraising goals. Typically, fundraising development plans outline multi-year approaches for cultivating donors, securing financial resources, and maximizing long-term sustainability. With a fundraising development plan in place, not only is more money raised, but there is greater fundraising culture, more data-informed planning, more involvement from board and staff members, and commitment to sticking with the plan. Just finished the #ecornell course, Fundraising and Revenue Generation. I expected that it would cover the mechanics of fundraising campaigns. What I learned was much more strategic than that: planning capital campaigns, developing grant application content and the effective use of social media to meet fundraising goals. What I've learned through these nonprofit sector courses I've been able to implement in my for-profit glamping company's #habitatpreservation and restoration focus. One more module and I'm certified! #lifelonglearning #executivedevelopment #fundraisingsuccess #dogoodfeelgood

This month in Fridays 4 Fundraising, we’re giving your board clearer MARCHing orders on fundraising. Last week, I pointed out how very many ways there are for board members to contribute to the fundraising and resource development efforts for your organization. I also pointed out that board members don’t come to us as fundraising experts…and I promised we’d talk about that this week. Here goes… Too often, I see nonprofit leaders getting frustrated that their board members won’t fundraise. But when I question the nonprofit leader further, I eventually get to a confession: “Kelly, I don’t really understand how to fundraise, so I just ask my board to do it and hope they can figure it out.” Oh, okay, I see the problem now. Fortunately, there’s an easy solution! Since fundraising is a skill, fundraising can be taught! I’ve seen so many boards that were fundraising failures turn into fundraising powerhouses with a little training. Bottom line: If you want your board to be good at fundraising, you have to give them the support they need to learn how to do it well. More on how to do that in this week's blog post: https://lnkd.in/eUMQF3yD
