If you hadn't noticed, it's award season. Awards can make careers. So, win awards, celebrate them, promote that you won them, and use them to build your career. But don’t just chase awards. Because it’s not the only way. You’re a creative. You don’t need permission to create. You can create whatever you want, whenever you want, and make something that sends a tiny ripple across culture that might last longer than an award. Maybe you can make something that lives in a museum for 100 years. Let me regale you with a story from the deep dark depths of the ‘most locked down city in the world’ during the 2020 pandemic.
love your work
As someone who spent most of his career in agencies that didn’t enter awards shows, and has a side hustle making travel posters of Victoria, I enjoyed this one a lot.
Not often I seen my home town given the limelight. Love it.
The first one I won I had no idea I was even up for one in the first place. It was a happy surprise to me. 🤷🏻♂️
I must have been under a pandemic size rock as I didn’t see these at the time. Brilliant effort! And incredible museum sized outcome. And hard agree that we don’t need client issued briefs before we get creating on our own terms. Find it kind of bizarre the idea of a creative who switches off and doesn’t have any internal motivation to explore their own ideas.
Covid lockdowns was an epic creative opportunity - I published my second book Get the Met about Melbourne rail history and design! Went mini viral on instagram and sold out in 2 weeks! Cant agree more, seize those golden opportunities to release magic into the wild - i sure did !
Not seen these before. They look great.
Bloody brilliant 👏
So great, haha! Mvp of the internet today for this post.
