They suggest architecture is about freedom, generosity, pleasure. Large spaces generate an essential feeling of escape and freedom. Large spaces facilitate appropriation, foster relationships within spaces, to allow for pleasurable situations, to encourage relations between people and promote social life. Enlarging does not mean wasting. Enlarging does not mean costing more. It means inventing space for uses and going beyond the norms and standards which reduce the living space. “TRANSFORMATION IS THE OPPORTUNITY OF DOING MORE AND BETTER WITH WHAT IS ALREADY EXISTING. FUTURE CITIES – CITY FUTURES, PART 1: Book project supported by the Helmut Hentrich Foundation Since its establishment by Prof. Dr. Helmut Hentrich in 2001, the purpose of the Helmut Hentrich Foundation is to promote scholarship and research in the field of architecture. Last year, it was a matter of the heart to the Foundation to support the book "Future Cities - City Futures: Emerging Urban Perspectives', published by TUDelftOPEN of the Technical University of Delft. The book, with a foreword by Werner Sübai (Senior Partner HPP Architects) and contributions from 37 emerging voices from all architectural disciplines, focuses the research discourse on the design and development of future cities. In 25 chapters – organised around the five themes complexity, proximity, diversity, density and ingenuity – answers are given to the exciting question: "What are the challenges and opportunities for our future cities? In order to get these results, a research brief was developed in advance at the Faculty of Delft University of Technology to address the complex issues of progressing urbanisation. In line with the Helmut Hentrich Foundation, the publication now offers a mix of ideas, observations and considerations for sustainable, resilient and liveable urban spaces of the future, focusing on change, development and innovation. What are the long-term implications of our designs? What are the socio-economic impacts of our work? How can we minimize carbon on the urban scale? How can we bring nature and people closer together? I am so looking forward to speaking about these topics with the Fay Jones School of Architecture + Design at the University of Arkansas on Sept. 25th.   Through the lens of Henning Larsen projects and research initiatives, I will share ways of designing with a life-centered approach on an urban scale, from integrating new mobility modes, decarbonizing urban spaces, and enhancing biodiversity to incorporating bio-based materials in the design of resilient urban environments that support the well-being of citizens and nature. https://lnkd.in/ewh9JSbw #lifecenteredurbandesign

Happy to share the publication of my new research paper "An architectural insight into the role of personalisation of homes and its effects on residents’ psychological well-being" in #Archnet-IJAR: International Journal of Architectural Research. The research introduces the concept of 'Transformability' which highlights the significane of personalisation of space in eleviating user's psychological well-being.
