It is a success for Westinghouse and the USA, but a failure for France and therefore the EU. Thanks to the ecologists of all the EU parties who organised the destruction of the EU's competitiveness. How long will we accept being humiliated? See my book "Energy Insecurity: The Organised Destruction of the EU's Competitiveness". https://lnkd.in/eu2RmrFt

As great power competition intensifies, energy security has become a pressing issue for the United States and Europe. This article in the Journal of Indo-Pacific Affairs examines how the US and Europe can cooperate to ensure stable access to affordable energy in the face of challenges from Russia and China. The authors argue that diversifying energy supplies, investing in renewables, and presenting a united front will be key for transatlantic partners going forward. With insightful analysis and policy recommendations, this piece provides valuable perspective on energy security dynamics in an era of rising geopolitical tensions. https://lnkd.in/gwYyRPpg #energysecurity #renewableenergy #Russia #Europe #China #IndoPacific #dependence Air University Press U.S. Indo-Pacific Command Pacific Air Forces George C. Martin Stopford, a well-known shipping economist, says he does not like green fuels very much and he does not expect that the industry will get the green fuels going this decade. Speaking to an audience at Marine Money in London, Stopford likened green fuels to instant coffee versus heavy fuel oil which is like the properly-brewed ”lovely coffee” in what he calls the ”barista theory”. ”Shipping is not an efficient industry to use green fuels,” he says. He imagines the industry will not get green fuels by 2030, leaving nuclear and carbon capture and storage as stop-gap solutions. #shipping #freight #oceanfreight #energytransition #globaltrade #techonology #sustainability

“The Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty that Colombia just joined aims to complement high-level political discussion on phasing out fossil fuels taking place at COP28 this week. If the conference’s final text includes a reference to the need to end dependance on dirty fuels, then the non-proliferation treaty could lay out an economic plan to achieve that… A lot of the conversations we’ve been having with Colombia and other countries have focused around the impossibility of turning off the taps overnight… we have to stop the expansion and we need to manage a wind-down, but we don’t just need one country to stop expanding — we need all countries…. People start to realize that when you get to the phase out discussion, you get to an economic problem …. That’s the shadow that doesn’t allow to move forward on phasing out fossil fuels, that’s why we want this treaty.” https://lnkd.in/d85tf22b

Which Sustainability Development Goal is most important to you and why? Let me know your answers in the comments.
Glad to have attended the GDF Siting and Communities Away Day Event in Manchester with my colleagues from Nuclear Waste Services. The event was excellent and well arranged, an important opportunity for me and others to Connect, Collaborate and Team Build. One of key take aways for me was learning that Sustainability in everyday life is vital for the well-being of individuals, communities, and the planet. It encompasses environmental, economic, social, and ethical considerations and offers a path to a more responsible and harmonious way of living. This event has reinforced my commitment to contributing to a more sustainable future for ourselves and future generations. Thanks to the Organising Team such as Julia Kinch and Laura Fortuna and others, as well as Simon Hughes and Martin Walkingshaw for their contribution.

Brilliant post by Prof. Adam Boddison OBE . It seems like there's a significant challenge in the industry regarding the reluctance of companies and recruitment teams to address the issue of professionals moving between sectors. Despite acquiring skills over multiple years in various sectors within construction, there's a hesitancy to place the right fit professional based on their acquired skills. The question arises whether project professionals should have the same flexibility to move between sectors as those in other professions like accountancy, HR, or marketing. In my view, not only should project professionals have the freedom to transition between sectors, but it should be encouraged. This movement fosters the cross-pollination of ideas and practices, allowing lessons to be learned and applied on a broader scale, ultimately benefiting the profession as a whole. While some argue for the necessity of domain knowledge, such as in nuclear, IT, or construction projects, the effectiveness of having domain-neutral project professionals collaborating with sector-specialist colleagues should not be underestimated. This collaborative approach distributes expertise across multiple individuals, potentially yielding more robust outcomes than relying solely on one person's specialised knowledge. #postoftheday

Should #project professionals be able to move between sectors in the same way as those in other professions, such as #accountancy, #HR or #marketing? In my opinion, not only should project professionals be able to move between sectors, but we should encourage them to do so. The cross-pollination of sectors helps lessons to be learned and applied at scale, improving the profession for everyone. Some argue that domain knowledge is essential (e.g. for #nuclear projects, #IT projects or #construction #projects) and I can see that point of view. But the combination of highly effective, domain-neutral project professionals working with colleagues who have specialist sector expertise should not be underestimated. It's arguably advantageous to have this expertise spread across multiple colleagues rather than compressed into one individual person... Anyhow, here is a story in The Times about a project leader from the #defence sector delivering a #rail project. https://lnkd.in/eAAqEn5t Association for Project Management

Today, Kāpiti Coast District Council became the first local government in Aotearoa New Zealand to formally endorse the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty proposal. The proposed mechanism is now supported by 8 nation-states on 3 continents, including a number of Pacific Island nations and has gained personal support from Climate Minister James Shaw but is yet to have formal backing from the New Zealand government. Ahead of New Zealand’s election this Saturday, campaigners across the country have launched a campaign pushing the country to become the next nation-state to join the bloc of governments seeking a negotiating mandate for a Fossil Fuel Treaty to “phase out fossil fuel production, halt the expansion of fossil fuel infrastructure, and promote a just transition to renewable energy sources.” Just as nuclear-free cities played a crucial role in building momentum toward the negotiation of a Nuclear Ban Treaty, Kāpiti Coast has joined Sydney, the Australian Capital Territory, London, Lima, Kolkata, the State of California and more than 90 other cities and subnational governments globally who have formally supported the call for a Fossil Fuel Treaty. The resolution to support the Fossil Fuel Treaty proposal - led by Councillor Sophie Handford - urges the “New Zealand Government to join this growing coalition by publicly endorsing the call for The Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty” as well as “setting fair and clear timeframes to phase out” existing fossil fuel production. Tiana J. testified before the council and has helped launch the #FossilFuelTreaty Campaign in Aotearoa NZ and said "“Nā tō rourou, nā taku rourou ka ora ai te iwi, with your basket and my basket our people will flourish. With the support of the Kapiti Council and our grassroots campaign, the call for a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty to be backed by New Zealand is gaining momentum. Today we have seen the backing of a tomorrow for our mokopuna and Te Moana Nui a Kiwa. There is no better time than now to join this momentum, sign the petition or call on your council to endorse the call.” Who will be next? More here: https://lnkd.in/gGS8J3Q8
