Last Week, Levi Strauss announced how their new Enterprise Planning System has become a sort of marketplace for them to see their Inventories live in the value chain. Along with it , They also demonstrated , how gradually they are stepping ahead from Being a Wholesaler to a Retailer Focused on DTC in Years to come (This has Big Repercussions for their Suppliers in itself) The Question to ponder are if the Supply chain Participants are gearing up at the same level to see their Inventories and In Transit Raw Materials in pipeline and are able to devise a Digital Transformation that can augment a Virtual Pipeline where every one from the Fiber to the Store has equal visibility and clarity? Also, Is Levi helping its vendor to Steep up their learning curve to be their most adoptable ( Instead of Preferred ) Supplier? The successes of any such Systems can only be glorified if the benefits trickle down to the stakeholders as well so the whole eco system can benefit from this new model instead of being just a new way to suck all the margins and leave the suppliers stranded all the way. I am sure , its just the Beginning and soon other retailers will follow and we will be left with the whoever is the Cost Leader in its category as being the Winner and rest will take whatever is left behind. Time to think for everyone in the Supply chain ( Vertical Setups , Standalone Apparel Manufacturers and Wake up before its too late:) and evaluate how their Business Models are suited for what lies ahead ....
