This morning LAUFT gathered online for our regular weekly meeting. Our team meetings are always vibrant, insightful and dynamic, but this one was special as we had a focused discussion about the value of communication 💬🚀 In our organisation, communication isn't just important; it's the lifeblood of our operation. We thrive on it, we prioritize it, and we make it a central part of our culture. 🌐💼 Why? Because we understand that effective communication is the key to success, especially in a remote setup like ours. Whether we're miles apart or working from different spaces, keeping the lines of communication open is the very foundation that ensures that we stay connected, aligned, and productive. 📞💻 This morning was a powerful reminder of just how crucial communication is for us. We discussed strategies, insights, and reinforced our commitment to fostering a culture of open dialogue, idea sharing and collaboration. 💡🤝 At our core, we're a network of solutions committed to helping others strengthen their own means of communication and shared vision. And so you know, we always practise what we preach. Let's keep the conversations flowing 🚀🌈 Here's a pic of myself and my new colleague Maria Di Matteo today enjoying some valuable face to face time in our LAUFT space at Vaughan Mills today! 😁 #practicewhatyoupreach #flexiblework #hybridwork #colleagues #remotework #communication

Break free from the confines of formal meetings and create a relaxed setting that sparks enhanced communication and idea sharing among team members. Here are some activity suggestions to boost team morale and motivation while enhancing communication: 1. You’re logged onto a video meeting with seven other people. One person has been talking the whole time. Half the people have their cameras off and you can see at least one colleague scrolling on Twitter. Nobody has a voice in the conversation, so nobody is engaged and nothing is getting done. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone. Companies waste about $25,000 per year per employee on pointless meetings. That is a big, expensive problem. We have spent years solving it. Here’s what we’ve learned about creating a participatory environment. 📣 Encourage quiet folks to speak up. Providing lots of valid ways to participate (on-camera, in the chat, via emoji) engages different kinds of thinkers. We also recommend finding low-stakes way to get people warmed up and talking (yes, icebreakers!) and regularly shifting into small group or 1-on-1 breakout rooms where it’s easier to speak freely and harder to tune out. 🙊 Encourage others to talk a bit less. Do you have one or two extroverts that tend to take over? Pass the mic by creating timed, turn-based conversations where each person gets the same amount of time to respond to a thought or question. And if you or others need uninterrupted time to present, consider sandwiching the presentation between an icebreaker conversation and an opportunity for Q&A to balance out the extended focus on a single voice. 🌉 When in doubt, add structure. If more than three or four people are meeting, you probably need an agenda to keep things on track and set expectations for participants. Gatheround uses playable agendas (like a streaming playlist of activities) to move from one part of the agenda to the next. This reduces mental load for participants and hosts and makes it easier to focus on engaging and interacting with the topic at hand. 👩💻 Put someone in charge. This is not necessarily the most senior person in the room or the person who is presenting the most; it’s the person in charge of keeping track of where you are in the agenda, whose turn it is to talk, and how much time you have left. If you don’t normally assign an emcee, it might be time to start. 🎉 Have fun (but not mandatory fun.) Our recommendation? Don’t set fun apart. Instead of setting up a happy hour, weave socialization into every meeting, even (or maybe especially) the really boring ones. It’s often as simple as adding a silly poll here, a 5-minute conversation break there, and a group photo or great music video at the end to cap things off. Ready to try a meeting that already has all of these elements pre-built and ready for you to use? Check out a Gatheround classic like our essential Staff Meeting. https://bit.ly/3yrgLhw

Yesterday at the Refresh Conference , I promised the audience that I’d share a powerful tool on LinkedIn that can significantly strengthen team dynamics and interpersonal relationships overall. The tool is called "Fast Friends" (link in comments). This tool is especially effective for remote setups. You can use it even with thousands of colleagues on a call. Just send them into 1-on-1 breakout rooms, and believe me, the results will be surprisingly positive! Use this exercise to foster stronger bonds. It’s great for enhancing empathy and connection among team members, but it also works wonders for deepening existing relationships with your friends. Once again, following up on yesterday—people over processes!🙌

How can a company help employees overcome loneliness? Colleagues working from home might feel lonely, which is why we believe having an office is important. Our colleagues can schedule their own office days to spend time together and get to know each other better. We also aim to support transparency by organising company update events online and hold in person team-building events every quarter. Additionally, we schedule 1:1s and meetings on a weekly basis to learn more about our colleagues' challenges. As a company, we believe that supporting our colleagues is a priority.
