In mid-April this year, I returned to the Netherlands and found myself at a new beginning in many aspects of life. This fresh start led me back to an old love: golf. Although I had taken a few lessons in Helsinki in 2023, I hadn't played seriously in over seven years. Don’t ask me why, because the golf course always felt like home to me and brought peace. And that balance is something everyone should find in their busy (work) lives. When I picked up my clubs again, my handicap was 54. Despite my long ‘break’, I had some experience from years ago, so I knew it wouldn’t take too long to lower that number. Now, after just three months of dedicated practice, I've managed to lower my handicap to 23.5 (happy me). Armed with my trusty old #Mizuno MP-32 irons and a #Titleist 905T driver, I've been spending at least two to three days a week on the driving range and playing nine holes up to two times a week. Last week, a minor lower back setback kept me off the range. Fortunately, a TPI-certified physical therapist in my network got me back on track, and I'll be hitting the course again next week. For those who play golf competitively, you know the thrill of lowering your handicap. My current goal is to get under 20. Once I reach that milestone, I'll look into club fitting to bridge the gap between my irons and driver. So, why am I sharing this? Because it's important to show who we are and share what we love. A good boss, manager, or colleague should understand what drives others. Unfortunately, I've seen too many instances in my work life where people were treated as just numbers. Let’s make the world of LinkedIn a better place by sharing our passions and supporting each other. You'd be surprised at what a little authenticity can do. (for the ones who do care) I’m looking forward to seeing the 2024 goals of my golf-minded network. And if you're not a golfer, give us a little insight into what drives you. Let’s really connect.

#ThepowerofdisciplineToday morning I woke my normal time at 05am ready to go for my religious Saturday club run.Looking outside the window, it was raining cats and dogs.I slipped back in my woollen and covered fully. The rain persisted. At 05:30am, i decided to get out of bed and prepare.I took my power breakfast and called my running partner to be ready also. Out she came and we start discussing I guess 20 reasons why we should not run in the morning: 1.It was raining and of course we can't start running in the rain. 2.Running on wet tarmac is dangerous, we can easily fall and get injured 3.Probably not many runners will show up today for the club run The list of self defeating reasons was endless. We decided to go back to bed and run later. Surprisingly, after like 20 minutes, the rain stopped. So no more excuses! We decided to dress up again and go for the run. On arriving at the meet up venue,we were astonished to find more than 25 runners doing warm up exercises to begin their run. When we thought we would probably be the only ones who showed up...I was heavily dressed and guess what, other runners were in simple T-shirts, no sweaters or raincoats(Life be no balance) The run was flagged off at 07:10am and I still had not made up my mind on how many km I should conquer. I put forward my best foot amid the positive elevations, and finally made it back.Had we not showed up, what would be going through our minds? One most memorable lesson from today's run is the power of discipline and consistency.A thousand miles begin with one step. What is my one step that I need to take today to make a difference in my life? Can I perfect it along the way? of course yes.In the long run, we become better and experts when we do small things in a great way. Let's show up for ourselves and work on it with indomitable passion.

Embrace the Green: Golf's Therapeutic Benefits for Mental Health and Well-being 🌞 In the quest for mental well-being, golf emerges as a powerful ally. A sport that combines physical activity with the serene beauty of nature, golf offers a unique blend of therapeutic benefits that extend beyond the green. Nature's Healing Power Getting outside, even for a round of golf, has been shown to significantly improve mood and mental health. The tranquil environment, combined with the physical activity, helps in reducing anxiety, depression, and even dementia. It's a natural antidote to the stress of daily life, offering a sense of peace and relaxation. Physical and Mental Fitness Golf is not just about swinging a club; it's a low-impact exercise that can significantly boost physical health. It's a sport that can help individuals improve their confidence, self-esteem, and anxiety levels, without the side effects often associated with medications. Social Interaction and Community ---- GreensGuild and Steven Henchel The social aspect of golf is another key benefit. It provides a platform for camaraderie and human contact, which is known to improve mental health. Golf clubs offer a supportive community where players can share experiences, support each other, and find common ground. Inclusivity for All Golf's inclusivity is a testament to its therapeutic potential. Studies have shown that golf can significantly improve the quality of life and life satisfaction for golfers with disabilities. It provides opportunities for positive life experiences through sport participation, fostering a sense of belonging and achievement. Research and Studies Recent studies have highlighted golf's role in enhancing mental well-being and life expectancy. From the Golf Science Journal to the peer-reviewed journal BMJ Open Sport & Exercise Medicine, the evidence is clear: golf is a game that can transform mental health and contribute to a healthier, happier life. A Green Path to Health So, whether you're looking to improve your mental health, find a new hobby, or simply enjoy the great outdoors, consider adding golf to your routine. It's a sport that not only offers physical benefits but also a therapeutic escape from the daily grind. It is now generally well accepted that to improve golf handicap, it takes technical lessons, many hours of practice as well as hours spent in the gym. Not even a decade ago, the norm was one where golf fitness was completely out of the box. What forward-thinking organizations and innovative community leaders in the golf industry have already been doing is adapting a multimodal approach within their academies or golf clubs. It’s an approach that highly values the integration of physical golf training plans, golf yoga activities and/or TPI professionals. They know it increases member/customer longevity & vitality and it generates a wealth of potential new leads within the younger golf generation. Thereby they are not only growing the game but also generating higher success rates locally (as in becoming a thriving business). While the industry used to revolve around technical swing elements, this has now been replaced by wellness and fitness. It’s the new trend and will continue to only grow. Any organization or professional adopting this strategy is already solidifying its strategic pillar supporting its relevance and success in the future. While there has been rapid development over the past decade, I also believe we’ve barely scratched the surface of what’s possible when integrating the BODY, MIND & GAME pillars. My latest collaboration with Ladies European Tour showcases our commitment to raising the game. I’m honored to have my work featured and this piece has been a true joy to do! check it out here: https://lnkd.in/gNka6PM9

Happy recovery Friday! To all of the volunteers, cheering crowds on the sidelines (…and like from start to finish), and those of you who made and displayed all of those funny signs at the Boston Marathon Monday….Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! It’s so helpful and impactful for those athletes running the grueling course! I don’t know your names but will always be grateful for you cheering on all of the crazy marathoners! 🙏🏻❤️🏃🏼♂️💨 It’s a real, and scientific, fact- those funny signs at marathon races can help athletes by providing a source of motivation, humor, and distraction during the grueling race. They can lift runners’ spirits, make them smile, and take their minds off the physical challenges they’re facing, even if just for a moment. . #bostonmarathon2024 #signs #motivation #distractionsneeded #recommendation #exercisemotivation #juststart #strengthandflexibility #befit #healthylifestyle #lifestyle #longevity #exerciseismedicine #purposefulmovement #foryourhealth #livehealthy #befit #rjhfitperspectivellc #certified #personaltrainer #nutritioncoach #runwalkcoach #nutritionstrengthmovement #doallthree #everyweek #htx #heightshouston (No content on this site, regardless of date, should ever be used as a substitute for direct medical advice from your doctor or other qualified clinician.)

These are wise words from Padraig Harrington about creating a love of golf for your kids. It's a lifelong sport about the memories you make and the time you spend together. This is an important message for parents and people who have the means to help kids who traditionally don't have access to golf. - - - #golf #youthempowerment https://lnkd.in/gCY3KTt3

Specialist Headhunter for Digital, Marketing, and Commercial Roles: We help ambitious businesses find brilliant people.
Running sucks, run clubs suck less 🏃♂️ As I enter the final year of my twenties, the shared, unexplainable desire to start running outside in uncomfortable synthetic clothing has grown and grown 🧐 Two years ago, if you told me I would be getting out of bed at 6 am to run 5K in the rain before work I would have laughed and gone back to sleep, but here I am... 😤 It's not easy, and it's not fun, but it's a hell of a lot easier when you're surrounded by other people going through the same thing 🏃♂️🏃♀️🏃 Run clubs are popular for a reason ➡️ Shared pain is easier to handle because it's validated. You build a sense of solidarity which leads to perspective, and subsequently, motivation to persevere (that was a mouthful) 🫶 I think I speak for alot of people when I say my automatic response to something I'm struggling with is to try and handle it on my own - what I'm learning is that struggles are best shared. Talk to your team, share your struggles, seek solidarity and support, and everything gets easier 🥇 Happy Easter - sorry if this felt like a generic LinkedIn running post, it had to happen at some point 🤷♂️ Lewis Bamber #running #struggles #easter #solidarity #teamwork #communication
