We just released a new 300 W DC-to-DC GaN reference design for 2- and 3-wheeled electric vehicle battery chargers, demonstrating one of the most anticipated value propositions of a GaN power supply: bidirectionality. This core capability is required to advance V2X (vehicle-to-everything) infrastructure for system market e-mobility applications. “Continuing the leadership of Transphorm GaN in higher power applications, we have now demonstrated bidirectional power conversion that can be used by vehicle on-board chargers for e-mobility, renewable energy and backup power systems, and other power supply applications requiring highly integrated, interchangeable input and output terminals,” shares Primit Parikh, President and CEO of Transphorm. 🌐 Today, SiC4GRID had the honour to host an online workshop alongside our two sister projects, AdvanSiC and For2ensics, funded under the same EU Horizon Europe call topic (CL5-2021-D3-02-10). It was an enriching session where each project had the chance to present their concept, objectives, scope of activities, and initial results. AdvanSiC is a 3-year project gathering 11 partners and coordinated by IKERLAN. It aims to develop, produce, test and validation cost-effective HV SiC MOSFET semiconductors in MVDC grid applications. Their scope includes a full-scale wind converter, a full-scale solar inverter, and a solid-state circuit breaker for DC converter stations. Future Oriented Renewable and Reliable Energy SIC Solutions (For2ensics) is a 4-year project led by Institut de Microelectrònica de Barcelona (IMB-CNM, CSIC) and involving 8 partners. Its objective is to develop and demonstrate a commercial DC/DC converter prototype for rapid market introduction post-project. For2ensics focuses on the development of ultra-high voltage (UHV) SiC based switching devices which would allow for simplified converter topology and compact design when coupled with high frequency operation. A big thank you to Vrije Universiteit Brussel for organising the meeting and to all participants for their contribution to this first sister project event. Stay tuned as we delve deeper into future collaboration and networking activities. #SiC4GRID #HorizonEurope #Collaboration #AdvanSiC #for2ensics

Linde today announced that it has recently delivered a green hydrogen plant and equipment for a fourth air separation plant to Germany's largest semiconductor manufacturer, Infineon Technologies, at its site in Villach, Austria. The green hydrogen is produced by electrolysis using renewable energy. The delivery of the hydrogen plant enables the production of 800 kilograms of green hydrogen per day for on-site semiconductor chip production at Infineon’s site. This eliminates the need of delivery by truck. The 2 MW electrolyzer plant – built, owned and to be operated by Linde – will produce green hydrogen using PEM technology from ITM Power, which Linde will then purify to meet the rigorous specifications needed in Infineon’s manufacturing process. The use of this high-purity green hydrogen is part of Infineon’s plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at its Villach site. #hydrogen #greenhydrogen #electrolyzers #semiconductormanufacturing
