In support of International Women's Day and giving back to the young women following in my footsteps, I asked myself, what advice would I give my young self, if I had the opportunity?
When I think back on my journey in my career and over the past months with Zendelity, here are some of the lessons learned, that others might benefit from.
▶ Being a little scared, about what's coming, is not a bad thing, boredom drives dissatisfaction, in every part of your life.
▶ Don't wait to be a perfect fit before applying, there is nothing more valuable than on-the-job learning.
▶ Better out than in, saying what is troubling you often puts it in perspective, our brains can and do, blow stuff out of proportion.
▶ Especially at work, when communicating be direct, concise, and data-driven, data takes the emotion out of it.
▶ Be observant, listen, and learn before reacting, don't rush in and assume you have all the answers, it doesn't make you look smarter.
▶ Be prepared, it's not likely to go perfectly the first time, the faster you respond, the closer you are to achieving perfection.
▶ Have a plan, write it down, and adjust the plan as necessary, but have a plan, it's so much more efficient!
▶ Brainstorm, invite feedback, iterate, make it better, always be evolving.
▶ Ask for it! Ask for the raise, promotion, project, purchase order, or investment, don't wait for it to be offered. Be proud, it's ok if everyone knows you want it!
▶ Don't gossip, it looks good on no one!
▶ Remember, the world is not always a nice place, be a supporter, not a detractor.
Love and support to all women out there, I am always happy to help if I can, please ask.
Cheers 🍾
