We are proud to announce Troy Skeen with GPI Defense - as a Veteran Owned Business Exhibitor & CAPTAIN LEVEL SPONSOR at the Houston Veterans Business EXPO! No cost to attend, Register today - https://lnkd.in/gTB2QHzN We Recognize the True Value of Security Professionals. The security guard industry is facing a critical turning point. For too long, these vital protectors of our communities have been unfairly dismissed and disregarded. When people hear “security guard,” they’re quick to picture comical characters like Paul Blart or dismissive labels like “rent-a-cops.” This perception is unjust and poses a severe threat to the safety and security of our communities. This is where the game changes. Security professionals are responsible for safeguarding lives and property and maintaining public safety – a task that demands unwavering dedication, vigilance, and skill. We are changing the game by acknowledging the importance of their work and treating them with the respect they deserve. We are changing the game by emphasizing higher standards, respect for security personnel, and refusing to sacrifice quality for affordability. At GPI Defense, we proudly refer to our security personnel as “security officers” to underscore their professionalism and expertise. This simple change in terminology goes a long way in fostering respect and elevating the status of these crucial protectors. We are also committed to breaking away from the dangerous low-bidding culture. Our focus is on providing top-notch security services. We refuse to compromise quality by engaging in a race to the bottom. We equip our security officers with the necessary training, skills, and resources to handle any situation competently and professionally. GPI Defense is not just another security company. We are catalysts for change in an industry that desperately needs reform. By upholding higher standards, treating our security officers with the respect they deserve, and prioritizing quality above all else, we are paving the way for a brighter and safer future. BRIDGING THE CYBERSECURITY GAP: Excited to be participating in an event with Massachusetts Fallen Heroes to promote a very important cause – helping Veterans transition into jobs in cybersecurity through their new program InnoVets. I will be moderating a panel of extremely impressive experts in the cybersecurity field – Kevin Powers, Founder and Director of the Cybersecurity Program at Boston College, Andrew Zitney, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at State Street, and Brigadier General Mike Cornell, Vice Director, Joint Service Provider, Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA). During this event, we will discuss the vital role of cybersecurity in safeguarding our country, fortifying corporate America, securing our financial institutions, and how Veterans can continue to provide a tremendous service to our country through this work. Please join us on 2/29! Registration information is below. We face a cybersecurity workforce gap at a time when the national security threats the United States is facing are simply unprecedented in terms of their volume and severity. These threats primarily concern nation state actors, including China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea, and each of these countries has been engaged in cyberespionage related activities against America. For instance, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence’s 2023 Annual Threat Assessment identified China as representing the “broadest, most active, and persistent cyber espionage threat to the U.S. Government and private-sector networks.” Last fall, we learned that a Chinese state-backed hacking group, Storm-0558, hacked into the email accounts of 25 organizations, including unclassified emails of senior members of the U.S. Departments of Commerce and State, using an extremely sophisticated method – leveraging a flaw in a Microsoft cloud-computing environment (i.e., a validation error in Microsoft code). Recently, we learned that Volt Typhoon hackers have been hiding in U.S. critical infrastructure networks for as long as five years and staging to perform sabotage activities. DOJ and FBI have increasingly been engaging in disruption campaigns rather than relying upon criminal prosecutions to address these cyber threats and cybercrime. Indeed, in the last two months, the DOJ and FBI have announced two massive disruption operations – one involving PRC’s Volt Typhoon and the other Russia's GRU Military Unit 26165 a/k/a Fancy Bear hackers. Yesterday, FBI Director Christopher Wray announced that the FBI had “kicked the Russian GRU off” a large network of compromised routes and “locked the door behind them destroying the GRU’s access to a botnet it was using to run malicious cyber operations against countries around the world, including in the United States. These efforts require skilled cybersecurity professionals as the hackers working for our adversaries vastly outnumber us in this area. #cybersecurity #military #veterans #nationalsecurity #defense
