Total SVOD subscriptions in the first quarter of 2024 increased 10.2% year over year, a considerable slowdown compared to 18.8% YoY growth reported in Q1 2023, according to Antenna’s State of Subscriptions: Pricing and Packaging report released this month. https://lnkd.in/gwA7N78T

SUBSCRIBER LOYALTY KEY AS FOCUS TURNS TO PROFITABILITY OVER ACQUISITION Antenna’s State of Subscriptions report was released in June, highlighting the challenging environment faced by streaming services as growth slows and churn remains of concern. According to Marketing Brew, the report highlights a renewed focus on achieving profitable growth as a primary objective over subscriber acquisition, evidenced by on-going experimentation with pricing, advertising strategies, content roll-out, and bundling. While monthly subscription price increases across the sector did not significantly disrupt either acquisition or retention, overall churn rates across premium SVOD services increased to 5% in 2024, compared to 4.4% in March 2023.
