hire these folks Even if you do not own or run a media organization, journalists are excellent at: -getting to the heart of a story (and therefore in the business context asking the right questions to solve the right problems and sniffing out bullshit all along the way) -finding new information (and therefore in the business context establishing new relationships with people outside the company who have insight and knowing which primary resources are worth consuming for insight) -telling a story (and therefore if you bring them in for comms roles they will know how to appeal to reporters in a way that is credible)
I was among the 30 or so DC-based editors and reporters WSJ laid off on Thursday, when they dropped a neutron bomb on half of the newsroom. I’ll be fine and have a long runway to find another job, but worry about some of my talented, younger colleagues who haven’t been at the paper as long and may leave journalism altogether.

If you agree that Word of Mouth is the best form of advertising, then what is the second best? Second best is radio because the music connects with lifestyle + on-air personality connects emotionally with the listener as their "friend". Somewhere along the way, radio became too huge + too much the same. They lost requests, birthdays, sponsoring a square dance promoting community + etc. Sure, there's a lot of talk that radio is dead due to streaming. Said before.. radio dead because of television, CD's, + etc... Hey, Radio! Wake up... it's time for a new strategy. In marketing, every product has a lifecycle.. bell-shaped curve that shows acceptance, growth, the height of use, + a progression down to minimal usage. Smart marketers know as height is reached, a newer version of the product must be introduced, new curve is begun. Ex. laundry detergent, there's the intro + as it reaches it height, the "all new with blue crystals" is introduced, climbing the new curve. As this starts down, add the "whitening + softer formula" to begin another curve. Radio needs blue crystals. How about you? Your turn is coming soon! Eddie Powell, MBA Eddie@EddiePowell.com
Newspaper not the only old-school media platform hemorrhaging advertisers & community impact. Local radio also in free fall. Audacy, the second-largest radio station owner in the country, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Industry analysts say Audacy placed too much focus and resources towards a variety of DEI, diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.

A week ago on 6/4, I woke up and realized it was the primaries, and I had forgotten to send in my absentee ballot in time. So, I hauled butt after work and drove 1 1/4 hours to Helena to drop off my ballot at the Lewis and Clark City and County building. Some might say, "It's only a primary, why bother?" or "That's a long way to drive just for a primary ballot." There's a _lot_ of reasons why I bother to vote, no matter the drive: 🇺🇲 My great-grandparents left Eastern Europe for the US because life was hard, they were poor, and they didn't feel represented. 🇺🇲 1,000s of people lost their lives to become free of colonial rule and govern themselves forming the US. 🇺🇲 1,000s of people died on D-Day 80 years ago to crush tyranny and keep freedom alive in Europe. 🇺🇲 1,000s of people, journalists, and protestors die every year for freedoms we take for granted in the US. 🇺🇲 Although our system has issues and the candidates might be lousy, it's the system we have and I'll keep trying to improve it one vote at a time. 🇺🇲 I'm a US citizen and it's my duty to participate in my government, no matter what. 🇺🇲 Democracy is not something to be taken for granted. It can be challenged any and every day. Voting is my way of staying vigilant to keep democracy alive in my country. I was deeply touched by the D-Day anniversary coverage last week. It was especially excellent coverage on the BBC website. If you are looking for motivation to stay engaged in the US elections this year, check them out: https://bbc.in/4edY0P5 I reflected a lot about the speeches that were made. When you think about your own participation in your government or society, are you worthy of the sacrifice of those D-Day Veterans? Sacrificing a quarter-tank of gas and a few hours of my time was _nothing_ in comparison to the sacrifices of the D-Day soldiers. It was my honor, truly, to vote last week.
