This is an important indicator of the demand and accessibility of the educational institution. At "Synergy", we prioritize career education and offer a wide range of courses, from the Basic Law School to the State-of-the-art Department of Cybersecurity. Our approach to education is focused on equipping our students with the skills necessary to succeed in the job market. Recently, we discussed with colleagues the various requirements that higher educational institutions are expected to meet. While potential applicants want universities to be modern, innovative, and democratic, the academic community and parents of students want us to be more strict and fundamental. Though these requirements may seem contradictory, we strive to take both into account and cover the whole spectrum. This approach has been key to the success of "Synergy".

Higher education is important and invaluable but understanding what your industry expects/requires is something that may keep you from spending time and effort in areas that aren’t necessary. Cybersecurity and IT can be anomalies in a lot of ways. Some hiring managers want to see formal education while others want certain certs. Almost all want hands on experience, though, which in most cases is required before you can actually get your foot in the door! Talk to people in the field, get their input and make an educated decision before working your tail off unnecessarily.

Very honored to support the UC Center for Cyber Strategy and Policy at the University of Cincinnati as *Affiliate Researcher*. I will be volunteering in this position to advance the study of cybersecurity through a social science (and humanities) perspective. When I was studying, I dreamed about a place like CCSP. The CCSP is unique in its set-up: - They aim to bridge the gap between evidence-based policy and strategy research and policy practice to address the technological challenges we face every day. - They see cybersecurity not only as a technical problem, but comprehensively as a political, economic, social, organizational, technical, and educational challenge in a technically fluid environment. - They create multidisciplinary interactions with the technical and computing sciences communities as collaborators. Even though I never pursued a PhD myself, I want to highlight what an *important* role research and research methods played and will play in policy making and for me personally. We can rely on the work public policy researchers have done to answer current questions - I sometimes used theory from the 80s - on how lessons can be drawn across countries and applied it to today's context in cyber. Research methods are developing fast and the CCSP is at the forefront with breaking traditional silos in academia. But they need all the support they can get as interdisciplinary research is still a tough cookie. ⭐ New Report ⭐ I'm thrilled to finally share my latest report—a true passion project—on the National Science Foundation's CyberCorps scholarship-for-service program. This report helps to shed light on why institutions seek to be part of the program, what factors make an institution’s program successful, what fields of study student recipients are pursuing, and why programs might focus on graduate students over undergraduate students—all of which inform the changes PIs would like to see in the CyberCorps program. Additionally, this paper is highly complementary to the National Cyber Workforce and Education Strategy. The NCWES specifically mentions the CyberCorps program six times when laying out ways to increase participation in cyber education and workforce pathways while acknowledging that the federal government will explore expanding the capacity of such programs. A recent cyberattack at the University of Winnipeg has caused disruption to university services, leaving students stressed and worried about assignments, exams, and accessing course materials. The university's semester has been extended by one week and exams have been postponed. This incident highlights the need for universities to be well-prepared to defend against cyber attacks. Why are Universities Vulnerable? Legacy Systems: Many universities rely on outdated IT infrastructure with known vulnerabilities. Large Attack Surface: Universities have a vast network of users, devices, and applications, creating more entry points for attackers. Focus on Research: Research can involve valuable intellectual property, making it a prime target for theft. What can be Done? Invest in Cybersecurity: Universities need to prioritize cybersecurity measures like updated software, staff training, and robust data backups. Educate Students & Staff: Raising awareness about phishing scams, strong passwords, and safe online practices is crucial.
