Activist and campaigner Kwajo Tweneboa is on the frontline of the social housing crisis raising awareness about the shocking conditions of disrepair so many of the UK’s most vulnerable residents are forced to live with. His game-changing book, ‘Our Country in Crisis: Britain’s Housing Emergency and How We Rebuild’, published on 18 July 2024, investigates and exposes the UK housing emergency and the steps we can take to rebuild with stronger foundations. On 15 July Temple Bar London is honoured to be hosting a talk by Kwajo, chaired by me as Trustee, at Paternoster Lodge, 2 Paternoster Square, EC4 7DX. Book tickets: https://lnkd.in/e_UNngrE In his talk he'll present his manifesto for change. Based on first-hand experiences, from speaking to Grenfell survivors, and the parents of Awaab Ishak, who died from a respiratory condition caused by mould, it's strongly driven by his and his family’s story of living in disrepair, subject to the neglect of systems designed to protect. He'll present inspiring case studies from countries getting it right and give clear direction for how we can create meaningful change. This is an unmissable opportunity to hear from and engage with Kwajo on these critical issues requiring pressing attention from the next UK government. Join us and also be one of the first to get a copy of the book, a must read 🙏 ’In just 18 months, Kwajo has gone from desperate social housing tenant to the most important housing campaigner in the country. And he’s only just turned 24’, wrote The Big Issue, describing him as ‘Britain’s housing hero’. 'Kwajo's voice is leading the call for change on behalf of a generation who have been seriously failed by Westminster’, says Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester. 'A brilliant thinker and doer. Kwajo for Mayor of London!' - Kelechi Okafor, actress, director and public speaker. Kwajo is a tireless campaigner against poor housing conditions and advocate for the unheard in our society. He rallies audiences around the country to lobby government and housing associations, and advises government officials from all sides of the political spectrum on policy. In his documentary with Channel 4, ‘Help! My Home is Disgusting’, he worked with tenants in disrepair to help them tell their stories. ‘Our Country in Crisis: Britain’s Housing Emergency and How We Rebuild’, Trapeze, 2024, is his first book. The talk includes: • Networking reception. • Kwajo's new book will be on sale by #TheGildedAcorn bookshop (1 Portugal Street, WC2A 2ES, LSE campus). https://lnkd.in/eSt9fmsg.
