Ticketmaster's Still Hiding Ticket Fees, Senator Says: Live Nation, the parent company of Ticketmaster, promised to scrap the hidden fees plaguing its ticketing service earlier this year. But one senator says the company's not doing nearly enough. From a report: In a letter to Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino Wednesday, Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) called on the company to turn on an "all-in" pricing filter that it added this year by default. Klobuchar said it's "still too difficult" for users to turn on the filter that's "buried within a tab that gives no indication that it contains" the option in the first place. "Millions of Americans rely on your company for the chance to see their favorite artist, band, or sports team," Klobuchar wrote. "In return for their business and trust, your customers expect a transparent and honest ticket buying process free from hidden fees." Back in June, Live Nation, along with AirBnB, SeatGeek, and DICE, pledged to disclose the full price of their tickets and services as part of an agreement with the White House to reduce "junk fees." At the time, Live Nation said that these new rules would start applying to events in September. Read more of this story at Slashdot.

Great reporting by former colleague Jason Koebler at 404 Media on secondary markets for event tickets sales like Taylor Swift (everyone should go check-out and subscribe for quality tech reporting). Ticketmaster has rolled out various anti-scalper technologies. However, these measures seem to have an ironic twist. Instead of deterring scalpers, they've discovered loopholes to bypass these barriers, while genuine fans and customers find themselves locked out. Here's a closer look at how scalpers are having a field day: 1) Tech-Savvy Scalpers: Despite the anti-scalping tech, scalpers have found ways to navigate through, making it a breeze for them to snatch up tickets. On the flip side, these technologies pose a hurdle for fans, often leaving them empty-handed. 2) Bulk Account Purchases: Scalpers have the resources to buy hundreds or even thousands of verified Ticketmaster accounts at a nominal price, a tactic that's economically viable for them but leaves fans at a disadvantage. 3) Virtual Waiting Room Shenanigans: While a fan enters the virtual waiting room once, hoping for a chance to grab a ticket, scalpers game the system by entering these rooms hundreds or thousands of times using specialized browsers, which cost a hefty $500/month but significantly up their chances. 4) Specialized Browsing Tools: Scalpers employ specific internet browsers designed to bypass waiting rooms. Some of these browsers boast about bypassing over 300k+ waiting rooms, showcasing the extent of the issue. This scenario begs the question - are other sectors like dinner reservations facing a similar crisis due to resale communities?

It’s always Day 0 at eq but last week we launched our platform eq.tickets (https://eq.tickets/) just in time for me to make the ceremonial first purchase to go to see Drake at the Forum in LA. Talk about timing the product roadmap 😉 Here’s why you should care: at eq we’re on a mission to elevate the fan experience. We decided the first problem we’d tackle is something we—the people—can unanimously agree on: Ticket fees suck. It made sense to pay marketplaces 20% when someone had to manually stuff envelopes with ticket stubs back in 1999 but fast forward to 2023 and everything’s electronic. So why would you still pay for delivery? An email costs $5? Outdated. Time for a change. With this in mind, over the last few months we worked to secure the *same exact* inventory you see on those other sites that shall not be named. Yes, this includes tickets across concerts, major sports, college sports, theater, etc. In short…Same tickets, lower prices. Yes… it really is that simple. Wrapping up, unlike the corporate executives who haven’t been outside their air-conditioned press boxes in 30 years, we are a GA Seats kinda team and we want to build this alongside you all. With that spirit in mind, *please* give us feedback. Tell us what’s broken, what features you’d like to see, tag us in tickets you buy, etc. — eq is truly for you —the people. Let’s rock ⚡

The biggest problem in live ticketing is resellers. Don't get this wrong. It drives up prices, real fans get fleeced & the whole experience becomes 10x more stressful. But the worst part? Not a dime goes to the artist, their team, the crew or basically anyone who had anything to do with putting on the damn show. Who gets it? 1. Scalpers using bots to grab tickets before real fans. 2. And StubHub, currently seeking a $16.5B IPO. Over $3B sucked out of music last year by vultures who provide zero value. It's time to fix music's broken ticket system. We can disincentivize scalpers. We can drive surplus revenue back to artists. We can get more tickets into the hands of actual fans. Let's build something better. --- This week I'm going into the best solutions AND how artists can lead their live ticketing. Join up: https://lnkd.in/evM_nge6
