WorkStep's CEO, Dan Johnston, sat down to talk about how Walmart's Brooksville warehouse in Florida is taking a leap into the future with automation, transforming the way we process goods and enhancing efficiency throughout the supply chain. 📦 We speak with José Molina, an autonomous forklift operator at the warehouse for 25 years, who recently transitioned into managing robotic arms and screens. The change has brought a fresh perspective, increased energy, and a reduction in manual labor. Embracing this technology is "a big change," as described by, Dan, going on to say that some people treat their physical roles as a gym membership. While physicality isnt strongly correlated with job satisfaction or turnover, career advancement, clear job expectations, and schedules most certainly are. 📚 This automation journey extends beyond the warehouse; it marks a pivotal step in shaping the future of the entire supply chain industry. Together, we are creating a more efficient and technologically advanced future for the entire logistics industry while providing employees with much-welcomed upskilling opportunities and room for advancement. 🚀 Read More: https://hubs.la/Q01ZStyD0 #Automation #SupplyChain #Innovation #FutureReady #CareerGrowth #TeamWork #Logistics #Walmart #Transformation

In a study done by Chain Store Age, "92% of respondents say a clean, organized store environment increases likelihood of purchase." Keeping retail stores clean and organized is an operational challenge for retail leaders. --Busy stores make it hard to find appropriate times to stock and tidy shelves. --Unexpected absences leave stores short-staffed and team members focused on other high-priority tasks. When left unattended, depleted inventory, messy shelves, and a dirty store lead to lost revenue due to customers leaving without making a purchase based on the state of the store. Not only is this an immediate loss of revenue, it could result in potential future lost sales. There are ways to overcome these challenges. Autonomous solutions are increasingly being deployed to support staff with things like inventory tracking, customer service, and cleaning. By deploying autonomous solutions, retailers support their staff to focus on customers while also keeping shelves stocked and stores clean. Take your store's cleanliness and organization to the next level by bringing on autonomous solutions like Cobi 18, an autonomous floor scrubber. CRE research professional and head of a national commercial real estate research platform for Newmark in Canada providing thought leadership, operational excellence, team building and market insights
In a Calgary warehouse almost as big as eight football fields, an army of robots whir about, carrying massive quantities of merchandise bound for Walmart Canada customers, reported The Globe and Mail. "Some of the robots zip around the hulking facility transporting pallets of merchandise fresh off delivery trucks. Another resembling a giant arm moves the pallets onto conveyor belts. A third group are labellers." "Together, they shave down the time it takes to get products from trailers into the facility by 90 per cent – and their overlord, Walmart Canada, hopes this is just the start. It plans to bring robots to Mississauga and Cornwall, Ont., distribution centres over the next five years. “We’re super excited about what we’ve done in Calgary and we’re super excited to scale that and get it into our other sites,” said Matt Kelly, Walmart Canada’s vice-president of supply chain. It’s not hard to see why companies including Walmart are enamoured with robots." https://lnkd.in/guMzfYtX #ontario #warehouse #technology #robots #calgary

Packsize to provide the solution to oversized boxes for consumer deliveries 📦 Walmart have recently collaborated with Packsize to design a machine to build on-demand, right-sized boxes aimed at providing Walmart customers with faster shipping and less waste. US innovation and automation senior vice-president Prathibha Rajashekhar commented: “By working with Packsize to develop the Ultra5 machine, we created an innovative packaging solution that tailors each box to the items we are shipping to customers. This eliminates unnecessary waste and improves the unboxing experience once the package arrives.” Packsize states that their new Ultra5 machine can produce up to 600 boxes per hour and reduces packaging waste caused by oversized boxes. It also reportedly negates void filler such as plastic air pillows, reduces shipping emissions and improves parcel logistics, enabling retailers to fit up to 33% more boxes on freight and delivery carriers. The Ultra5 also includes a ‘Flaps Down feature, allowing boxes to flow through the packaging process by placing a paper band around the flaps to secure them to the sides of the boxes. Collaborations like these show progress to producing boxes that fit to product size, avoiding wastage that we currently see on the whole within retail packaging deliveries. #walmart #packsize #collaboration

TL;DR: Industry giant Walmart is setting a new #warehouse #automation standard with it's central #Florida facility. Previously manual labor activities are now being handled via #robotics, #automated vehicles, and #connected systems. Fulfilld's take: As leaders such as Walmart move towards greater automation, undoubtedly the trickle effect will permeate the larger ecosystem impacting downstream businesses. Fascinating as we are seeing the future unfold before our very own eyes... Per The Wall Street Journal: “Welcome to the future,” said José Molina, who has worked in the Brooksville warehouse for 25 years. Three months ago he became an autonomous forklift operator in the facility after years unloading semi trucks the manual way with a pallet jack. “Now I’m watching the robots unload the truck. I’m behind the robot taking care of the issues,” said Molina, 51. “It’s a big change.” The work is less manual, there is more software knowledge involved, and he has more energy at the end of a shift, he said. Walmart plans to automate or partially automate many of its hundred-plus U.S. warehouses in the coming years. The shift means Walmart can use fewer people to process more goods and make stocking shelves at stores more efficient. To keep their jobs, many of the company’s tens of thousands of warehouse workers need to retrain for new roles. Some will leave. Warehouses will also need to hire people with new skills, such as technicians. Large companies such as Walmart and Amazon that rely on massive warehousing networks have worked for years to automate more of their supply chains to increase the volume of packages they can process and reduce labor costs. Because of Walmart’s scale, its plan to make automation standard in more of its supply chain is likely to affect how smaller competitors invest in their own facilities and what a U.S. warehouse job becomes. #BeFulfilld
