Constructive News: How to Save the Media and Democracy with Journalism of Tomorrow Negative stories make the news. Drama and conflicts, victims and villains are our modern world. Or are they? This revised second edition on constructive news challenges the traditional concepts and thinking of the news media. It shows the consequences media negativity has on the audience, public discourse, the press and democracy as a whole. The book also explores ways to change old news habits and provides hands-on guidelines on how to do so. Moreover, the book presents numerous examples from the author’s ten-year tenure as executive director of news at the Danish Broadcasting Corporation where he led a successful paradigm shift in news production. Constructive News is a wake-up call for a media world that struggles for a future, as well as an inspirational handbook on the next megatrend in journalism. https://lnkd.in/g25umZDn

“No organization, particularly a newsroom, can succeed unless it is cohesive and aligned.” Ceasar Conde, NBCUniversal News Group Chairman The FREE PRESS has been replaced by Aligned Agenda Media. Let's all share the same opinion and be aligned our thinking is a political party or a business on a mission as it does not allow for diversity in thought and opinion. If you celebrated the action that followed, you are wrong. If you were outraged by the action that followed, you are wrong. Fox News created a dangerous business but highly profitable model by spinning their news to the conservative right, a model that virtually all networks followed by replacing hard news with editorial as news. If you comforted and reassured while watching your news feed of choice you are not getting hard news. You are listening to editorial disguised as news. When your favorite anchor is a cheerleader it is no longer news and that is a danger to our democratic values. We are living the Digital Equivalent of Yellow Journalism.

Social media and new technology has forced journalism to adapt - not killed it. In fact, Pew reports that 87% of publishers say social helps story promotion and 79% say it helps to connect with audiences. Though new perspectives challenge trust and ethics--not to mention the integration of #GenerativeAI-- legacy media's principles like research and fact-checking remain relevant for all. We explore the ways the #NewMedia has had an impact on traditional #journalism in our recent article and how trusted #Databases can help: https://bit.ly/3RpFuYX #LexisNexis #NexisForMediaProfessionals #ResearchTools #ResearchTechnology #TrustInData

In today’s fast-paced media landscape, where sensationalism often overshadows substance and commercial interests sometimes dictate editorial decisions, the concept of an entirely honest journalism-based media house seems increasingly difficult. It has various pulls and pressures. Nandkumar Saravade & I write in Business Standard on the challenges facing the #ideology of journalism and the connected industry, including the influence of #corporateownership, the rise of #digital platforms, and the blurring lines between #traditional and non-traditional sources of #news. We observe on #regulatoryoversight, #transparency in media ownership, and the role of independent #watchdogs in holding media organisations accountable. We write on, Enabling true Journalism - The Design Principles. https://lnkd.in/gfuSPvjs #MediaVsJournalism #media #mediaindependence #journalism

Had this in the pad since sometime in 2022 but finally got it down (better late than never eh?). Now it might be all these are in motion, which is great, but if not here's my take on how the BBC local journalism transformation can see all boats rise and help improve the wider local news eco-system in digital. Includes: - using broadcast studios as a way to drive creative sectors outside major cities - doing more collaborative journalism that gets published outside of the BBC - taking aggregation seriously to send traffic around the web more - opening up the BBC's local sounds in a YouTube like manner - making more of BBC local presenters - and running pilots to establish the potential to extend the Local Democracy Reporting Service to areas like courts Full post is below. 👇 #journalism #localjournalism #digitaljournalism #ideas #digitaltransformation #bbc

Hard to argue with any of this.... "What the government should not fund, produce, or broadcast are news or news-interview programs. The issue is not just political bias. The issue is that the heavy hand of government should not control any broadcast news within the U.S. Let the president, Cabinet secretaries, senators, and representatives hold press conferences. Let the White House, Pentagon, or State Department hold briefings. That’s more than enough to get their message out. They don’t need to fund broadcast networks. That would be true even if their journalists and presentations were fair-minded. They aren’t, and that’s one more reason to end this public funding. But it is not the main reason. The main reason is that it is simply wrong for the government, with its deep pockets and coercive power, to control any broadcast network. Not in a free country."
