𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 “𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗷𝗶𝗴𝘀𝗮𝘄” 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗽𝗵𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸 Following a public inquiry, Inspector Paul Griffiths has granted planning permission for an 18-storey building providing Class E space. The inquiry related to issues of character and appearance, daylight, and principle of the use. Of particular interest in relation to the design of the building the Inspector agreed with the design approach of an exemplary quality counterpoint building. He found that: “To my mind, the scheme at issue has an attractive form. It would not have the same regularity in its floorplate as neighbouring buildings, but it would not be harmfully amorphous. Its size, scale and massing would be disciplined and controlled, and articulated by steps, terraces and the ‘ripples’ in the façade. It would not appear as a building that is too tall, or too big – it would appear as a building that has a contrasting form to the buildings around it. It would be different, obviously, but in a way that would be pleasing.” Russell Harris KC and Anjoli Foster acted for Lendlease, the Appellant, instructed by Pinsent Masons. Charles Bishop acted for the Community Objectors of H1, the Rule 6 party, instructed by the Public Interest Law Centre (PILC) with the support from Southwark Law Centre.
