What an incredible story that overshadows the wonderful sporting achievements of these athletes. Perhaps though it will become their legacy. In all workplaces, leaders in positions of privilege need to ensure they are acutely aware of their significant status and power. They should always behave in a way that has ultimate respect for that status and power. ‘Intent’ in such scenarios actually becomes quite irrelevant. A word for the bravery of this athlete who simply desired to play football but is now under incredible scrutiny and pressure. It’s actually quite a simple message for leaders. Respect your power and privilege. Act with integrity and humility. Hold yourself to the highest standard of behaviour. That is all.

Busy week at the World Athletic Championships in Budapest. Very important discussions around the need to give women opportunities in the leadership and coaching roles in the sport. Progress made with women on Councils, but don’t forget these stats that still exist: 👉 Less than 2% of the athletes at a major champs are coached by women 👉 Only 10% of coaching accreditations at a Weld Champs are given to women 👉 Estimated 5% of all Federations have a female CEO, Head Coach and or Performance Director.
