Meet Jessica Miller, the assistant manager at VOA’s Central Kitchen, who embodies dedication and passion in her role. Her journey began with volunteering, which quickly turned into a career fueled by her love for cooking and serving those in need. Helping manage a team that provides meals to various shelters and programs across Sacramento, Jessica’s leadership shines through collaboration and learning. “It gives me a joy to cook for people that are less fortunate and to see the smiles on their face.” With no culinary background, Jessica and her team rely on their shared passion for cooking and learning from each other. Central Kitchen’s Manager Stephen McKinney, mentors them, emphasizing continuous improvement. Her commitment extends beyond the kitchen, advocating for more resources to empower individuals to improve their lives. **Why don't you volunteer?** Reason: Time constraints Well, life's a rollercoaster, and sometimes it feels like your strapped in for the ride without a break. Between work, family, and personal stuff, it's tough finding a spare hour, let alone a chunk of time to commit to volunteering regularly. Possible Solution: Squeeze in tiny acts of kindness whenever possible. Even if it's just lending a hand to a neighbor or chipping in during local events, these little gestures count. Plus, keep an eye out for short-term volunteer or one-off events that fit into your hectic schedule. #volunteering #serveothers

Understanding why and how building community works is the answer to most nonprofit industry problems, including reversing the decline in small donor giving. This article focuses on crossing cultural barriers through volunteering together. The reason that works is that being in community brings constituents more joy than hating someone different from themselves. Another way to say "joy" is "customer satisfaction." Community building has systems, processes, expertise. All the pretty-word copywriting in the world will not create it. Only when we put constituents in proximity to other constituents to work on our mission together do we create community.

Volunteering has been an incredibly rewarding journey for me. It's not just about giving; it's about what you gain in return. The positive impact is profound, from a sense of purpose to personal growth. It's a constant reminder of the power of community, compassion, and the difference individuals can make when they come together for a common cause. Volunteering has enriched my life by broadening my perspective, boosting my empathy, and connecting me with wonderful people. It's a reminder that in helping others, we often help ourselves as well, and the value of giving back is immeasurable. #Volunteering #PersonalGrowth #GivingBack

I've been volunteering at my local soup kitchen & food pantry and I'll tell you what: their team demonstrates #delegation and #empowerment in a way I had NEVER before witnessed in my career. Every day, 4 fulltime staff leaders direct 20-40 volunteers who range in age from teenage to elderly. Over half of the volunteers are either brand new or help out only once a month. The result? 👉 Staff leaders assign and move volunteers to tasks countless times per day, demonstrating zero hesitation around who is and isn't capable 🖐 Asking questions isn't only encouraged, it's mandatory to get things done – meaning volunteers comfortably ask for help all day without any judgement 👋 Volunteers who have done a task even ONE TIME before are asked to teach others how, inspiring confidence in volunteers' ability to learn, educate, and execute 👏 Trust inspires volunteers to quickly demonstrate leadership qualities, corralling idle hands when they need support chopping, carrying, or bagging Too often, we see risk-averse corporate tendencies slow down #productivity and #advancement. My local food pantry proves just how much can be accomplished when we reduce those barriers. 🙋♀️ Side note: if your mind is wandering to some version of "well, there's less to lose in a nonprofit" I encourage you to remember that whereas much of corporate risk is perception and usage, what this nonprofit has to lose is the ability to feed families that otherwise go hungry #fridayfeeling

🌟 Going Above and Beyond: Value-Added Offerings for Our Clients 🌟 At Enhanced Healthcare, we're dedicated to providing more than just staffing solutions – we believe in adding value at every opportunity. From free training to entertainment days, donations, and volunteering initiatives, we're committed to making a positive impact in our communities. This month alone, we've been busy putting our values into action. We've completed three volunteering days with one of our partners, rolling up our sleeves to give their gardens and patios a much-needed facelift just in time for BBQ season. And we're not stopping there – we're already planning for next month, to bring joy and laughter to residents and staff alike. But that's not all. We recently held an entertainment day, where residents of a local nursing home enjoyed music, games, and companionship, courtesy of Enhanced Healthcare. It's moments like these that remind us why we do what we do – to make a real difference in the lives of others. On the training front, one of our national clients took advantage of our free training offerings, enrolling their team in our safer moving and handling of people and basic life support course. They utilised five free training spots to update their existing team and expedite the onboarding process for a new starter. Here you can see a sneak peak of them in action! It's all part of our commitment to sustainable staffing solutions – investing in the skills and development of our workforce for the benefit of all. We're proud of the work we do, but we're always striving to do more. That's why we'd love to hear from you – what has your agency done for you recently? Share your stories and let's continue to inspire each other to make a difference. #ValueAdded #CommunityImpact #FreeTraining #Volunteering #ClientPartnership #EnhancedHealthcare

In another Career Tuesday, we will discuss extensively on how to find the right volunteering opportunities and maximize all the benefits of volunteering, but for now, let's reflect on the transformative potential of volunteering and also beer in mind that, beyond giving back, it can greatly contribute to your personal and professional growth. So, explore new opportunities, cultivate meaningful connections, and enrich your journey while leaving a positive impact. In the words of Dorothy Height “without community service, we would not have a strong quality of life. It's important to the person who serves as well as the recipient. It's the way in which we ourselves grow and develop.” #volunteering #CareerTuesday #personalgrowth #professionaldevelopment #communityservice #transformativeimpact #FindYourOpportunity #makeadifference #DorothyHeight

This week, I'm excited to be volunteering for #OpMo as a pit crew member for #CrowdstrikeRacing by #RileyTechnologiesLLC. It's an incredible opportunity to travel and learn while also giving back. Volunteering has been one of the most rewarding experiences for me, both personally and professionally. It's helped me develop resilience and better communication skills, especially when dealing with anxiety. I'm curious, how does your team or organization build resilience while giving back? Share your thoughts in the comments below! #volunteering #givingback #resiliencebuilding
