We got our first eggs this weeks! 3 total eggs valued at $1.24 at the grocery store. [They are free range after all!] Now, that feels like a pretty minimal payout. Less than $2 worth of eggs isn't great ROI on: → $100s in coop materials. → 2 months of weekends spent actually building the coop. → Hours & hours caring for very fragile chicks. → Daily responsibility of feeding & watering. But this doesn't tell the whole story. This doesn't consider how raising chickens Checked the box on so many of our family pillars. Having these animals has helped our family: → Slow down & live at 3mph. → Create life-giving rhythms for our kids. → Eat locally-sourced food. → Work together as a team. To many, our decision to get chickens may seem foolish. To us, it's been worth it 100x over. Dads, Fatherhood isn't about doing what everyone else says is best. It's about finding out what's best for YOUR family & kids. Craft your specific vision. Refine your unique values. Live them out consistently every day. What's something unique that you do in your fatherhood that works for your family?? #burnuntamed

Did you know nearly 7,000 children in Orange County, North Carolina are on free and reduced meals? That's 1 in 3 kids who can be considered food insecure. TABLE was founded in 2008 to help alleviate food insecurity among children living in Orange County by providing local kids with healthy, fresh food and nutrition education. We started serving 12 kids at one elementary school and have grown our programs to deliver food directly to the homes of 950 kids every week. Since 2008, TABLE has distributed over 2,880,000 healthy meals and snacks to local children. Through our food access and nutrition education programs, our goals are to improve children’s overall health; increase children’s knowledge of nutrition, positive attitudes toward healthy eating, and/or long-term healthy eating habits; ensure kids and families are engaged, involved, and feel dignified; and ensure kids have access to and eat sufficient nutritious food. Over the last year, TABLE has achieved some remarkable milestones including completing our Capital Campaign raising $3.25 million to purchase and renovate our new building, raising over $300k at our annual Empty Bowl Fundraiser - the most successful Empty Bowls ever, and moving into our new space where initially we will feed 1,000 kids with a goal to reach 3,000 children! As TABLE grows more everyday, TABLE is facing a challenge we have never seen in our history: a waitlist of over 300 kids and growing. We are living in a time where inflation is at its highest and it’s challenging to reach more donors. We need help now more than ever if we want to continue to give the children in our community healthy, sustainable lives. Please follow us to continue to learn more about us and ways you can help. https://tablenc.org #foodinsecurity #feedinglocalkids #orangecounty #helpingkids #nonprofit #tableinc #tablehistory

Yesterday, Wheeler Wolfenden and Dwares, CPAs participated in the ABCares Delaware annual hygiene drive, helping to deliver 4 carloads of donated supplies to Pleasantville Elementary School. Every child deserves to feel clean and confident, regardless of their financial situation. Many families struggle to afford basic necessities like soap, shampoo, and deodorant. As a result, many children go to school without the supplies they need to stay clean and healthy. This can lead to a number of problems, including: 🤢 Increased risk of illness: Children who don't have access to basic hygiene supplies are more likely to get sick from germs and bacteria. 😥 Decreased self-esteem: Children who feel dirty and unkempt may be less likely to participate in class and social activities. ❌Bullying: Children who don't have access to personal hygiene supplies may be bullied by their peers. ABCares Delaware provides opportunities for ABC Members to make a difference in their community by giving of their time and effort, to have a positive impact on the quality of life in the First State. Come out and join us! https://lnkd.in/dWrmWfzc

Random Acts of Kindness. Following my last post on how helping others via random acts of #kindness supports in a happier self as it releases Serotonin in our body that is vital for our own happiness snd wellbeing. This is also directly connected to our self-image. I’d like to share a research by psychologist Sonja Lyubomirsky. She found that intentionally demonstrating acts of kindness helps the giver have more #positive self-image and feel happier. In her study, those who committed to perform five or six random acts of kindness per week felt happier than those who did not. Dr. Lyubomirsky also found that when all six were done in the span of one day, the effect was even greater. I identified a few ramdom acts of kindness performed in the last week and felt great. Let’s identify moments where you could act more kindly in the future. It could be helping a needy or a stranger, donating, being empathetic to a colleague or someone you work with, helping a person find a job, protecting our nature or the mother earth, working towards animal welfare, or just by listening to someone. ⚡ Our first impact report from our partnership with Magic Breakfast is in! 🧡 Since September 2022, we’ve delivered 1.1 million meals to 449 schools, helping over 127,000 children access free breakfast 👨👩👦👦 Magic Breakfast is a charity that delivers breakfast to children who face hunger every day, working with schools with high levels of disadvantage, helping head teachers target the children most in need. 🥪 Before the pandemic, an estimated 1.7 million children were at risk of starting their school day hungry. With the cost-of-living crisis hitting household budgets in the UK over the last year, that figure soared to four million in 2023. That’s as many as one in four children starting their school day on an empty stomach. 📅 Over the next 12 months, the Warburtons Foundation have pledged to donate 1.5 million units to those in need across the UK as part of our Sustainability strategy. As part of this commitment, we are delighted to continue this partnership with Magic Breakfast and will donate 200,000 units (or 2 million meals) in the next year. #fromourfamilytoyours #magicbreakfast #charitypartnership #proudtobewarburtons

When school’s out, will healthy meals for our kids go with it? This summer, families across NYC will see their pandemic-era food benefits begin to expire. These benefits historically covered meal costs for families whose students received free meals at school. At Children's Aid, we know that youth flourish in school and in life when they grow up healthy and strong. Securing access to nutritional meals for our students and their families is a critical component of building resilient communities and helping children reach their full potential. Under the new Summer EBT program, most eligible families will receive funds to cover their meals for the summer automatically, no application is necessary. Learn more about how this new initiative will help mitigate the effects of expiring pre-pandemic funding: https://lnkd.in/eZU-Azh7
