What does this one remind me of? LinkedIn is FULL of free advice. Mostly from people who don't have the results to back up their words. Leadership coaches who have never led large teams? Check. Productivity gurus who don't actually own businesses, and have no discernable success in their career? Check. Military Transition "experts" who are either still on Active Duty or don't have a significant civilian experience to show for it? DOUBLE check. You do not have to listen to all career advice floating around on LinkedIn. Take a step back and assess what makes their opinion valuable enough to listen to. It's the internet. Here are the 3 key learnings from this 30-second scene: 🌟 Take care of your people and they will do the task ✒ Respect is a two-way street 📍 True Leaders always protect their team 🌟In the scene, when the defence secretary asks a person to bring him a drink, Sam Manekshaw interrupts the defence secretary and asks him to give his introduction and then also tells him that the defence secretary mistook him as a server. This action of Sam Manekshawas knew that the boy was from the army and through his actions he gave a clear message that no matter who you are you cannot mess around with his people. This also gave the message to the boy that the top person in his organisation was with him. If the leader supports completely, then team members commit fully. ✒Sometimes fear is mistaken as respect. The major difference is fear lasts till one holds a position, and respect lasts even after that person is dead. The people in the army and beyond respected Sam Manekshaw because he always showed respect to everyone from Jawan to Minister. I think that is what made him a great soul and this is one thing that took him far both personally and professionally. 📍 True leaders will always care for their folks, even if everything is at stake. Sam Manekshaw teaching a lesson to Defense Secretary for an Army Lietunet showed what every team member meant for him. As a leader, one should always protect the team and doesn't care about anything. During my five years of work experience, I got some leaders and mentors whose attitudes were similar to that of Sam Manekshaw and also came across people similar to the Defense Secretary (people who treat their subordinates as rats). NOBODY OWES YOU ANYTHING✌🏾 During the middle years of my 30-year military career, I had the idea that "I exist, therefore I deserve" mindset. I didn't have true mentors or participate in mentoring programs because I thought I knew what I needed to know to get ahead🤦🏽♀️ I spent a lot of time worrying and complaining about what so-and-so was doing or not doing to get a promotion, get a special job, etc. Working really, really hard and exerting all my blood, sweat, and tears did not always bring me advancement and I carried some bitterness, unhappiness, and low self-esteem. I was working way TOO hard and not being smart about learning from my experiences. After I started to seek mentorship, strategize, and become responsible for myself and leading others forward, I realized that nobody owes me anything🙌🏾 So, as we are working in our careers and in our businesses in our next chapter, we have to adopt the same mentality. 🎯Instead of comparing ourselves to other people around us and holding resentment because of what we think we should have or where we should be based on our past experiences, we have to strategize smarter and take advantage of the opportunities that are in alignment with our core values, vision, and mission. I can introduce you to someone at your dream company in minutes And get you the phone call you need to get your foot in the door So you can SHOW THEM how awesome you are (even more than on paper) Because I've spent the last 7+ years building relationships & trust like that #quinnsights The problem? I don't know you And when I make an introduction, I put my own #reputation on the line If it is a bad call or the person isn't really that great... There goes some of my reputation & their trust in me (that I spent a lot of time & effort building) And it impacts both my business credibility AND my ability to help others #militarytransition It happened before I introduced a senior military leader to an executive in industry that was filling a pretty cool role But I made that introduction WITHOUT SPEAKING to the senior military leader based on a friend's recommendation (even though there were red flags in the email comms) And the response I got from the Exec was: "Why did you send me that person? I'm interviewing them for a senior leadership role and not only were they completely unprepared, they asked ME to help them write the resume they were submitting to me." Ouch...credibility lost So I scrambled to send them an absolute rockstar E-9 that I knew that would blow them away (and they are still there) Luckily I had the relationship that they would give me another chance #veterans The point? There are millions of veterans + supporters across industry that can do the same exact thing as me to their networks But you need to build #relationships first Connect, highlight things in common, comment on their posts, ask for advice, follow up...basically put your name in front of them enough so that they recognize it and start to trust it Then ask for the call The rest is up to you Questions?

Why do I choose the content I post, and how do people react to it? And yes, that is my Christmas Wreath behind me in late February. 😆 1. My posts generally fall into 3 categories: Educate Entertain/Humor Motivate 2. I write what I am passionate about out. Aviation Leadership Women Supporting Others Military & Veterans I've realized that one of my greatest passions is people. On this platform, I regularly highlight others and bring attention to community leaders who may not be aware of certain issues. Think of me as your hype woman. 🎉 Moreover, I aim to equip leaders, service members, and veterans with tools and information that can improve their everyday lives. 👉🏽 What works for me? ✨Authenticity. Being open and honest about my own experiences, combined with data and facts, captures attention effectively. This by far is the best received by the LinkedIn community. There's a plethora of content out there, so being original and true to oneself is essential. Moreover, including an image alongside your content enhances engagement, as visuals draw attention. 👉 What doesn't work as well? Lengthy content that isn't succinct or captivating. I used to dump a lot of content in one post. This didn’t work and my message was lost. Think TLDR - Too Long Didn’t Read It's crucial to start with a catchy first line or an intriguing question to captivate the audience as they scroll. Additionally, it's vital to continue the conversation within the comments section. Many valuable insights come from these discussions. While I'm not an expert, these practices have been beneficial to me as I continue to learn and grow on this platform. 🚩 WARNING: EMOTIONAL POST This is my unbelievable story! Can you spot me in the picture below? How I went from a Military Instructor to a Corporate Marketer 🤯 Transitioning from the military to the corporate world was a leap of faith, but it's a journey worth every ounce of courage. The challenges of finding a job and translating military experience were real, but I've learned that it's okay to feel lost on the path to discovery. I had more down days than up and easily sent out over 2000 applications in the time span of a year!!! 90% of the applications were unanswered and the other 5% were kind words highlighting why I wasn't a good fit for the role. Resilience allowed me to carry on until Opportunity met Talent! The Opportunity: Driving to work in my little rickety rick called Noddy, I came across a reality TV show hosted by Capitec on the radio. GUESS WHAT? The prize was a job in their Marketing team. Long story short, I entered and I won. This was my big break into the industry. Moral of the story? It took years and years for my life to change overnight. Thank you to all my mentors, heads of teams, and colleagues who always took the time to ensure I shine. You illuminated my way and opened doors that would have otherwise remained closed.
