One of the things I'm excited about for this year's Outlier is Community Clusters! @stephenosserman had an idea at last year's conference, which he led the charge to implement this year. I love it because Community Clusters combines: • community building, • learning, or • networking into one. How they work-> **Community Clusters are exclusive to Outlier attendees** (online or in person) with groups of 8-10 people around a shared interest. For my Tableau friends, it's like Braindates. Initiatives like these are so helpful for getting to meet new people (especially if you don't know anyone at Outlier). Want to be a part of a Community Cluster? There are two steps: 1️⃣ Register for outlier 🔜 outlierconf.com 2️⃣ Sign up for a cluster → https://lnkd.in/e6-HPdEp

Founder - Divergity | Reshaping digital skills learning for divergent adult learners who struggle with traditional, one-size-fits-all, linear training.
I greatly appreciate these lovely Multipotentialites who generously shared a piece of their brain (cue: Zombie sound) during the Puttyverse Community Builders huddle. Building a community can be quite a journey, whether you're just launching one or nurturing it. The question arises: Is 'family' the right word to use if we want to have a deeper connection with our community members? Here are some valuable takeaways from the group. 🔗 The Link Up Lottery - random selector that encourage connections with the wider community. It's a way to 'mix people up', away from their usual groups. 🗓️ Events were highlighted as key to keeping members engaged and coming back in between formal sessions. 🤝 Having 'vows' for members to during meetups to reinforce their commitment and purpose. 👩👦👦 However, we acknowledged that 'family' may have varied interpretations for different people. Thanks to Joel (gotta love his energy!), Paul, Heather, Ross, Julianne, Monica, Andrea, Jens for the 'Buttered' discussion in today's session. If you're community builder, what are your best practices? And if you're a Multipotentialite like me, you can check out The Puttyverse - https://theputtyverse.com/ #multipotentialite #conversologist #communityengagement #communitybuilding

It is amazing what you can learn when you are open and transparent. We build in public and speak openly because we know in the long run we will be better off for having done so. It's a long and hard journey to do it alone. We need you, and we need Bri Leever. Neil W. had so much fun talking with Bri about whats working well at PORCH and what we need to keep improving. As Bri says 😀 - this is must-see for those: 🌱 starting a community from scratch 🌎 considering the great ecosystem of their community interactions 💰starting a paid membership community 🌈 those running a diverse community with a variety of different needs and skill levels This video covers the evolution of the community over the first six months since launch, our design in Slack, as well as the metrics we track. We have since added DISCO to our community with great results! PORCH: A Behind-the-Scenes look at this Best-in-Class Community Hosted on DISCO and Slack https://lnkd.in/gerb86eM

Hey On Deck alumni! On Deck's Slack channel is shutting down January 22. They've built a Community Portal to replace many of those functions. I dislike Slack as it's often too noisy and much value get's lost (not to mention expensive!), so I think this is the right move. No matter where you live, stay connected IRL and join local gatherings of On Deckers by signing up here: https://lnkd.in/gJHabvPC We will be baking this into Sevenn so you can more easily remember where your On Deck friends live while traveling (coffee in NYC!) and proactively connect you with new On Deck friends locally that you have things in common (just move to SF?). Share this with friends you made through On Deck who might not check Slack before it shuts down!

Don't set it and forget it. ❌ Community onboarding and guidelines are SUPER important in building a successful online community. While you may think you have everything planned before the launch, the reality is that once the community is live, you'll need to make updates and revisions to ensure everyone gets the support they need. The key to success is closely monitoring how people interact with your community hours and days after joining 👀 Have they joined the community platform? Are they attending events? Do they have questions? By understanding what the members need, you can create a living document that evolves over time and provides the guidance and support they need to take the most out of your community. #community #communitybuilding

Today I attended a tech community builders event, organized by Gang Connector, and want to share insights on building a community. The key points are: 1. The central person must have genuine interest in the topic, not necessarily expertise. 2. A group of less than 10 people working on projects together can be considered a community. 3. To grow, consider organizing events, meetups, and creating engaging content on social media. 4. As the community grows, the leader may feel overwhelmed. It's important to find helpers. 5. A good way to find helpers is to chat with people who stay to chit chat after events end. 6. A thriving community has a cycle: organizing events/projects, gathering people, executing plans, attracting newcomers, and repeating. 7. Ensure there's a balance of give-and-take for members to stay engaged. 8. If you want to do or organize something, go for it. If one day you lose motivation, pass it on to others. The community will continue as long as there are passionate central figures, though maintaining it can be challenging. (I got the photo from line group: tech community builder, I didn't take it myself.) #CommunityBuilder #TechCommunity #GangConnecter

The Little Things That Matter: How to Build Intimacy in Your Community 🥰 Building a close-knit community is a challenge, especially as it grows in size. But it's important to create a sense of intimacy, as this will help people feel valued and connected. 🥇 Here are a few tips for scaling intimacy in a community: 👇 👇 1) Personalize things: Get to know your community members on a personal level. This could mean using their names, asking them about their interests, or sending them personalized messages. 📜 2) Encourage the creation of sub-groups: This can help people connect with others who share their interests or goals. 🤝 3) Help people form 1:1 connections: This can be done through events, meetups, or online forums. 🎪 Building intimacy in a community takes time and effort, but it's worth it. A close-knit community can be a powerful source of support, inspiration, and growth. 👇 👇 🚨P.S.🚨 If you like content like this.
