In our collective ambition to understand, treat, and one day cure Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, I’ve always believed that our strength lies in our shared humanity. 🌎
That’s why as a treating professional and a leader in Alzheimer’s and dementia care, I am unwavering in my commitment to promoting dialogue, education, and advocacy for change as it relates to anti-racism, anti-ableism, and anti-ageism.
Today, I had the opportunity to attend a panel discussion hosted by Sage Eldercare Solutions and The Hummingbird Project Therapeutic Activity Program on the topic "Learning and Growing with DEI".
Here are three vital lessons I learned from their dedicated DEI Taskforce:
💪 Have Courage:
History has shown us that unflinchingly questioning the status quo in the face of resistance is a necessary act of bravery for meaningful change. We must have those challenging, sometimes uncomfortable, conversations.
💡 Be Curious:
Approach conversations with an open heart and mind. We must lean in and actively, truly listen, without judgement, from a desire to empathize and the intention to improve and ensure the people around us feel valued.
️ Stay Humble:
Recognizing our own unconscious biases and not becoming defensive when our perspectives are challenged or when we make the inevitable misstep, instead understanding that we all have them and we are all learning and growing, is imperative. We must de-center ourselves so that the voices that have traditionally been marginalized can be heard.
It’s on us to pave a path for diversity, inclusivity, and equity for older adults, their caregivers, and every healthcare professional involved in the field of aging. 🤝
These forums featuring important conversations happen monthly.
I highly recommend following the link in their flyer below to RSVP for their next event on September 22nd!

Director of Research and Development at the Center for Applied Research in Dementia , Dr. Cameron Camp tells the story of 'Three Dinners'
"I end up making her two or even THREE dinners sometimes, because when she doesn't remember we've eaten, she gets upset that I don't want to make her dinner!"
How can we store information externally for a person to help them remember something?
Dr. Camp gives a practical case study application of the Key Montessori Principle #7: Use visual hints, cues, or templates.

Making the home age- and dementia-friendly can make a difference and positively impact a person's independence and overall well-being.

Saalt's "why".
Why our Team works diligently each day.
Why thousands of people don't have to worry each month.
Why more girls are staying in school.
Why we are committed to producing the market's best products.
Why lives are changing.

Why stigma breaking is a non-negotiable.
Why Saalt is for everyone because everyone is impacted.
And why we aren't even close to being done :)
Take 3 minutes 43 seconds out of your day to learn about Saalt's story & then hit me with any thoughts or questions!
It all started with a phone call... ☎️
Watch how Saalt's founders, Cherie Hoeger and Jonathan Hoeger, were inspired to create the world's greatest period care products.
The lead up to Christmas is a busy time for lots of organisations. Certainly is at SGN, winter is our busiest time of year, particularly over the festive period when our front line colleagues work so hard, providing the heat we all rely on.
But who looks after the people who are keeping us all safe and warm?
I found this #mentalhealth video from Tarmac particularly impactful. Let’s make sure that all we look out for each other.
