The Visit SLO CAL team had an incredible experience at IPW in Los Angeles from May 5-7! The VSC sales team conducted over 80 appointments with travel buyers, accompanied by seven partners: Holiday Inn Express & Suites of Atascadero, KSL Resorts, Visit Atascadero, Visit Morro Bay , Travel Paso, Experience Pismo Beach, and Visit San Luis Obispo. The newly designed SLO CAL booth featured a wine activation each afternoon, offering tradeshow attendees a taste of SLO CAL wine. With international travel trends surpassing pre-pandemic levels, buyers showed great enthusiasm for booking lodging and activities in SLO CAL. We’re excited to share leads and appointment notes with our lodging and activity partners to ensure they benefit from the event’s success. Here's to continuing our journey in promoting the beauty and experiences of SLO CAL!

Proven Pharma/Biotech CDMO Executive and Faith Driven Investor - Riding and Raising Funds to Support Great Veteran Causes!
Many moons ago when I was a cub salesman at Eastman Chemical - I received some sage and practical advice from one of the grizzled senior sales execs at Eastman - the advice - " "Whenever practical and when there is not a meaningful differential in price, bundle all you hotels with one company, your flights with another single company and your car rentals with another single company." As the years have clicked by, this advice has been enormously useful and has been worth exponential whatever differential the company paid. Why? - when bumped off a Delta flight to make an important meeting, somehow the good folks at Diamond medallion found me the flight that would get me there (so many times --) - when flying in on the red-eye and needing just a few prep hours, the Titanium Marriott folks were somehow able to get me in at 10 am well before check-in (so many times) - walking around lines in all the above places rather than waiting (countless times) And what a nice goodie / the benefits continues when I fly with my family for vacation. Today's example - The good folks Marriott Hotels at the Madrid Auditorium near the airport deserve a huge shoutout. Upgraded room with concierge access. This is the spread in the concierge lounge - one of the best I have ever seen - and open on Sunday! (Another benefit I can not even calculate the number of breakfasts, lunches, and coffee mtgs held at Marriott lounges all over the world at no additional costs to the client or company. So those young in your careers looking at tons of business travel .... And for those approving expense reports of the road warriors... Bundle. Be Loyal. It will pay-off! I love the phrase from the Netflix No Rules book which applies - "Do what is the best interest of the company or client" Delta Air Lines

Introducing this week’s Hotelier of the Week! Pascal Visintainer is the Senior Vice President Global Sales at Accor for the Luxury & Lifestyle division. Despite his success thus far in the hospitality space, Pascal revealed that his route into the hotel and hospitality industry was in fact not a direct one. Possessing an initial background in sales, it was only later in his career that Pascal discovered the contagious dynamics of hospitality. Speaking on his journey, Pascal told us how he began his professional life in 1983 as a Sales Manager for Schneider Group. Three years later he joined the Conseil General de Savoie where he was Personal Assistant of Michel Barnier, President of the Department - working mainly on the project of the 1992 Winter Olympic Games in Albertville and Savoie. In 1995, Pascal joined Atout France where he initially held the position of Regional Director for Western USA , based in Los Angeles, then in London as Deputy Director UK before moving to Paris as Vice President of Sales and Marketing. In July 2008, he became Vice President Global Sales for Groupe Barrière Hôtels & Casinos and as such, was also responsible for revenue management, pricing, marketing and e-commerce. It was December 2017 when Pascal joined Accor as Vice President Luxury Sales. In 2021, he was appointed as Vice President Luxury Sales and B2B Communication and in 2023, Pascal was promoted to the role of Senior Vice President Global Sales Luxury & Lifestyle. When asked what he loves most about the role, Pascal commented: “Hospitality is above all an industry based on people and human interaction, and for me the people I get to meet and work with are clearly the best part of my job. From the team I work with internally at Accor, to the great people we have in our hotels, I can truly say, I learn something new from the people I work with every day.” Pascal sees that for anyone looking to break into or further their career within hospitality, they must have a great passion for exploration: “Whether that be visiting new places, meeting new people, discovering new food, or learning about different concepts and cultures. Hospitality is for those that are driven by learning and exploring as their career progresses.” With the hospitality space being a rewarding one, Pascal told us that whilst his career has had many high points already, the day he joined Accor is his most exciting career moment to date. “As a company, I had long admired Accor as a leading player in global hospitality with a truly unique heritage and offering. Now, in the position of Senior Vice President Global Sales for its Luxury & Lifestyle division, I am excited to be a part of Sébastien Bazin’s ambitious vision to reorganise and shape the group into a key player in Luxury & Lifestyle hospitality.”

I am working with several luxury hotel brands, focused on helping them improve sales. One key I have found is clarifying each "sales management" role to be clear on the KPIs for each role, determining if the role is really sales management or a sales role with a sales management title. What are some of the other keys you have found?

🎬 Lights, Camera, Sales! 📞💼 This weeks team calling day is based on our favourite Movie and TV show characters. The CSO teams favourite characters can unveil invaluable insights about how to excel in the world of hotel sales. Forest Gump once said, "Life is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you're gonna get." Respect the process, respect your clients, and respect the value you bring to the table. It's all about building trust and creating lasting relationships. And let's not forget the adventurous spirit of Lara Croft, who reminds us, "The extraordinary is in what we do, not who we are." We embrace challenges, seize opportunities, and ensure we have an epic adventure each and every day. 🌄 Ready to join a team that not only meets sales targets but also enjoys the journey?
