Here is my grand-nephew dancing with another tiny soul (who he just met 30 seconds ago) at the 77th Annual #Shinnecock #Powwow we attended this past weekend at Shinnecock Nation. They carried on this way for a good half hour and it dawned on me to try and capture a brief moment in time. If and whenever you can, expose your children to other people and cultures so they learn to appreciate others' beauty and celebrate what makes each of us unique - and despite our wonderful differences, you'll be confronted with the inexorable truth that our common threads are many. Start early. Here's how... ⭐️ Restaurants: As simple as it sounds, visit restaurants that offer authentic cuisine from different parts of the world - go beyond chips and salsa. Even better, engage with the staff. They are people (doing you a service), not servants to promptly refill your beverage. ⭐️ Cultural Festivals and Events: Attend local cultural festivals, parades, and events. They often showcase traditional music, dance, crafts, and food from specific cultures. ⭐️ Books: Read books by authors from different cultural backgrounds or about different cultures. Literature offers a deep insight into a culture's psyche, values, and history. ⭐️ Language: Learn a new language. It doesn't have to be fluent, but understanding the basics can open the door to deeper cultural insights. ⭐️ Movies and Music: Watch movies or listen to music from different countries. Like literature, they offer a glimpse into the daily lives, struggles, joys, and nuances of different cultures. ⭐️ Cultural Centers: Many cities have cultural or community centers dedicated to specific ethnic or cultural groups. They offer classes, workshops, and events that promote their culture. ⭐️ Cultural Exchanges: You can usually find out what cultural events are taking place in your area. Finally, festivals and events can be fun, certainly. Don't stop there - I encourage you to go beyond and learn their stories to gain a deeper understanding of their place in history to further appreciate their place in the present. #Indigenous #Mechica #NativeAmerican

🙅♀️ The Eldorado Festival being cancelled shouldn’t just be another festival cancellation because of the cost of living crisis. I had to record a video about it - because for decades, festivals have been a haven for community, belonging, inclusion and diversity, created for people to come together, have fun, celebrate and be part of something. We have all seen the struggle that many festivals and events have been challenged with since the pandemic due to a multitude of reasons, including the cost of living but also a lack of governmental support for independent businesses to thrive. It raises important questions about why we need to support community-driven events that generate cultural diversity more than ever, because frankly it’s so annoying and frustrating to see festivals being cancelled time and time again. They shouldn’t be forced to close their doors. So what can we do? 👉Come together and advocate for dedicated government support and aid. 👉Advocate for flexible insurance options. What else would you suggest? Because it worries me that we are going to lose these important cultural events and festivals… Does it worry you? ID: Promoting a post from Eldorado Festival announcing the cancellation of their event, with a photo of Gabby, a brown woman with long brown hair, red lipstick, and a yellow shirt talking at the camera about "Eldorado Festival Cancelled". #SaveFestivals #CulturalDiversity #CommunityEvents #SupportIndieBusinesses #FestivalLife

✨ TO BUBBLE AND TWERK OR NOT TOO, THAT IS THE QUESTION... ✨ Hey LinkedIn community! 👋🏽 Today, I want to spark a thoughtful conversation around an issue that has recently come to light in the Rotterdam summer carnival. According to the organization, parade participants are no longer allowed to twerk or bubble, and this has sparked a mix of emotions among carnival fans. While some understand the organization's concerns about certain dance styles going "too far," others see it as an infringement on their cultural expression and identity. The bubbling music and dance style, which has been an integral part of the carnival, is now being labeled "vulgar." However, it's essential to view this issue in a broader context and consider how other events, such as Pride celebrations, have not faced similar criticism for perceived explicitness. (As per the article below) This disparity and apparent unfairness in how cultural dances are perceived and treated raise concerns about racism and oppression. Some have pointed out the hypocrisy in allowing explicitness in other events while banning it in the carnival, which further fuels the discussion on cultural biases and double standards. I believe it's crucial for us to engage in open dialogue about such cultural clashes and disparities. We must strive for an inclusive society that respects and celebrates the diverse expressions of culture and identity without discrimination. So, I invite all of you to share your thoughts and perspectives in the comments. Let's foster a respectful and constructive conversation about cultural dances, the unfair treatment of certain expressions, and the complexities of preserving cultural heritage while ensuring inclusion and respect. Remember, our goal is not to divide but to understand and learn from each other's experiences. Let's build bridges and embrace the richness of our collective cultures. 🌍💞 #DEI #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion #CulturalHeritage #Identity #InclusiveCommunity #ThoughtLeader #Respect #Dialogue #Understanding #CulturalExpression #Disparities #RotterdamCarnival #OpenConversation #RodVisionInMotion _______________________________________________ Do you like my content and want to see more? 💡 🔔 Ring the bell on my profile, Rodney Frank & follow #RodVisionInMotion for my previous posts.

In a world filled with uncertainty and the relentless pursuit of personal gain, it's refreshing to focus on something truly remarkable. From September 29th, a Monumental Event will unfold at The National Mall in Washington DC, USA, and it's a spectacle you won't want to miss. The World Culture Festival, organized by The Art of Living, is a testament to the power of cultural diversity, music, dance, and various art forms. This festival is more than just a gathering; it's a message of "Vasudeva Kutumbakam", signifying the belief that we are One World Family. The history of this festival is awe-inspiring. The First World Culture Festival in 2006 saw 2.5 million people from over 150 countries meditating together in Bangalore, India. It featured a majestic stage covering 3 acres, 3,800 musicians performing in harmony, in the presence of Global leaders. In 2011, the Second World Culture Festival took place at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, Germany, where visitors from 151 countries celebrated the Art of Living Foundation's 30th anniversary. Over 70,000 people joined, representing diversity from every corner of the globe. The third edition of the festival in Delhi, India, witnessed 3.75 million attendees from 110+ countries, 36,600 artists gracing the stage, and the presence of 2,500 spiritual and religious leaders. Now, as we approach the Fourth World Culture Festival, we can anticipate performances from 17,000 global artists representing various cultural traditions. This event promises to be a celebration of our differences, showing us that crises can be an opportunity to unite people of different cultures, races, nationalities, and religions. What makes the World Culture Festival so exciting? It all begins with a Vision inspired by #Gurudev #SriSriRaviShankar, the Spiritual ambassador and voice of harmony, a Vision of the World coming together as one family. As Sri Sri beautifully puts it, "It is time the walls should come down between cultures, between civilizations; we should always remember we are one world family" Most Important: To all dignitaries who may be unable to attend this historic event, we invite you to take a moment from your busy schedules and experience this cultural magic through the links below: Day 1 (29 SEP): Washington Time: 6 pm - 9:30 pm UK Time: 11 pm - 2:30 am India Time: 3:30 am - 7 am https://lnkd.in/eFtwv-_G Day 2 (30 SEP): Washington Time: 8 am - 9:30 am (Yoga) & 6 pm - 9:30 pm UK Time: 1 pm - 2:30 pm (Yoga) & 11 pm - 2:30 am India Time: 5:30 pm - 7 pm (Yoga) & 3:30 am - 7 am https://lnkd.in/ejuCyJVy Day 3 (1 OCT): Washington Time: 9:30 am - 1 pm UK Time: 2:30 pm - 6 pm India Time: 7 pm - 10:30 pm https://lnkd.in/eGX58ASV If you appreciate diverse cultural activities, including music, dance, & food from around the world, show your support by hitting the like button below & enjoy the Vibes of global culture.

Today is Cinco de Mayo! Last year, Damaris Punales-Alpizar, a faculty member at Case Western Reserve University shared insights about common misconceptions surrounding this holiday. 💡 Misconception 1: "Cinco de Mayo is Mexico’s Independence Day." Cinco de Mayo recognizes when nationalist troops unexpectedly won the Battle of Puebla against the French Army in 1862. 💡 Misconception 2: "Cinco de Mayo is a major holiday in Mexico." For many years, Cinco de Mayo celebrations were limited to the state of Puebla, but overall, the day is not widely celebrated across Mexico. In the United States, the date is largely seen as a celebration of Mexican American culture stretching back to the 1800s in California. 💡 Misconception 3: "Cinco de Mayo is centered on partying." By the late 1980s, marketing campaigns brought Cinco de Mayo to the public eye with beer companies promoting drinking as a way to celebrate the date. The holiday's commercialization can often overshadow its historical significance. 📑 For further reading, check out this article from PBS NewsHour about the history and traditions of Cinco de Mayo! #CincoDeMayo #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion #DEI
