Chair of Inspire 2 Ignite CIC | Building Bridges between Young Talent and Opportunities | Future Talent Empowerment Advocate
The words of this young man 24 hours on from our event last night stick in my mind. "I need to enjoy myself while I learn" and sharing with us all how his experiences of being moved from school to school has affected him. As Sam Squire and I are due to sit down tomorrow to finalise our scale up plans for the work we are doing with Alternative Provision, we have a genuine opportunity to ensure we can show the world of education what is possible when we are given the freedom to innovate. What started as a dream that we could see young people learning about their communities and enterprises local to them on weekly basis, is now beyond pilot and into reality. From January we will see 20 students join Inspire 2 Ignite CIC once a week, doing just that, exploring different sectors and experiences that broaden their aspirations beyond academic education. If you consider only 28% of young people nationally get the privilege of enjoying work experience, these 20 AP students will get 38 a year! 🤯 The theory?! By the age of 16, these students will be more equipped for the working world than your average university graduate. What do you think, are we right?! What would the impact be on our economy if 20 students scaled to 20,000? Time will tell! 🤔 One thing we can guarantee, we will have fun cocreating this with young people and our industry partners.

[New] New from WUR Student Challenges: Hackathons and short challenges! The Wageningen Student Challenges easily take up half a year of students’ time. The challenges are of a considerable scale and open to teams from all over the world. Because this amount of time is too much for some students, two shorter challenges will be developed. The first is to start in the spring. Read all about it: If you had to start a student challenge today, would you choose a short or a long challenge?

"In everything we do in life, we set expectations and often judge things based on how they pan out according to our expectations. We limit our growth and learning to these boundaries that we make in our heads." This particular insight stands out as a personal favourite from my recent newsletter. I talk about my experience during a week-long fellowship, where I intentionally chose to embrace the unexpected rather than impose expectations. I also touch on a few of my projects - ending one and starting a new one. I don't want to spoil too much so check out the update here to read more: https://lnkd.in/gSxxdaki

🔎 Curious what I'm up to? Well, I'm 'done wasting my talents and have found inspiration to harness my ideals'. Last week, I embarked on a transformative journey with The School for Moral Ambition. Here's a brief look at their seven founding principles: 🔸 Action: Recognizing that being highly aware is not enough, emphasizing action and gratitude for human privileges. 🔸 Impact: Focusing on transformative changes, targeting opportunities with the most substantial effects. 🔸 Compassion: Broadening the moral circle to encompass all sentient beings, acknowledging their inherent value. 🔸 Open-mindedness: Encouraging a curious attitude, understanding the world's complexity with humility. 🔸 Radical Kindness: Fostering inspiration and teamwork, avoiding envy and resentment. 🔸 Enthusiasm: Motivated by the genuine excitement of enhancing the world, not by guilt. 🔸 Perseverance: Maintaining hope for the future, while acknowledging that progress is not guaranteed. Over the next 14 weeks, I will be delving deeply into these guiding principles through an immersive fellowship focused on forging real-world social impacts. This period will be more than a mere exploration; it's a structured journey marked by growth, learning and the pursuit of actionable change. Embracing the discomfort that comes with transformation, I anticipate challenges that will test and expand my understanding and capabilities. Feeling inspired? Want to start your circle, join a fellowship or delve deeper into the concept of Moral Ambition?
