Happy 25th birthday to US! 🎉 See how we're celebrating: bit.ly/3zzb5m0
Today marks the ✨ official ✨ start of our 25th anniversary celebration, and commemorates a quarter of a century of serving students and families.
Visions was founded on the belief that every student deserves a quality education experience that meets their individual needs and learning styles. For 25 years, our mission has remained the same, and with new programs, systems, and opportunities, we are continuing to create a community of lifelong learners.
We are so excited to celebrate this significant milestone - stay tuned for old photos, news stories, and more 25-year fun!
Communicators need to listen.
In my experience, when an underrepresented community member shares a story, it's usually a good one.
I can't tell you how often dominant-narrative bias has prevented people from seeing the value in invisible narratives, the stories of lived experiences.
I recently spoke on DEI communications: authentic storytelling, leveraging channels and building capacity. You can only do that by building listening skills. It's a practice that takes daily work and is part of the necessity of telling stories WITH the community instead of FOR them.
When Luis Alonzo Garcia shared this photo with me, I knew I had to listen. I also knew that this needed to be shared broadly.
A quick post later: it's a win for our community, platforms and strategic goals.
I'm happy to see it perform well and even happier to see better representation and the sheer pride of the first-generation community being amplified. So, the next time someone shares an underrepresented story, listen.
You may not end up with a published piece right away, but if you keep an open mind, you will start to see ways to bridge the narrative gap. There's a greater story waiting to be told.

Advice to new Pepperdine grads: Creatively and intentionally develop purpose, service, and leadership in your work. It's possible to be a self-centered worker in the nonprofit sector, just as much as it's possible to be an accountant or marketing exec living out selfless service. Don't let assumptions about your industry or seniority limit your intentional cultivation and application of core values and character.
What would you add?

Here's a freebie Video Lesson for Hispanic Heritage month for High Schoolers (or Middle Schoolers). If if you're not compelled, here are 𝟱 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗛𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵 (𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗜𝗳 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗛𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰)
1. Broadening Horizons: It's a big world out there! By celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, we expose students to the rich tapestry of Latinx cultures, traditions, and histories.
2. Empathy and Inclusion: When we celebrate different cultures, students learn to step into someone else's shoes, even if just for a day or a lesson. It's like a mini-vacation without the travel expenses!
3. Spicing up Learning: Let's be real – textbooks can sometimes be a snooze fest. Injecting diverse cultural celebrations into the curriculum can add zest, color, and rhythm to the regular school routine.
4. Building a Diverse Toolkit: The world our students are entering is becoming more interconnected by the day. By celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, we're equipping them with a broader cultural toolkit.
5. Reflecting Our World: Even if our student body isn’t predominantly Hispanic, our world is increasingly diverse. Recognizing and valuing Hispanic Heritage Month signals to our future leaders that everyone's heritage has a rightful place on the world's stage, and that every story is worth listening to.
In essence, taking the time to honor Hispanic Heritage Month isn’t just about checking off a cultural box – it’s about expanding minds, hearts, and opportunities for all our students.
I hope this free lesson helps, and if you'd like a full demo of our video lessons, go to

Ending high school with a bang is all about making lasting memories and leaving your mark. Organize a memorable senior prank (keep it safe and respectful, of course) that will have everyone talking for years to come. Plan a legendary senior trip or outing, whether it's a weekend camping trip, a beach day, or exploring a nearby city. Host a themed prom or graduation party that reflects your class's unique personality and interests. Consider creating a time capsule with mementos and messages from your classmates to be opened at a reunion years down the line. And don't forget to cherish the moments with your friends and classmates, whether it's signing yearbooks, attending senior events together, or simply hanging out and reminiscing about your high school years. Ending high school with a bang is about celebrating your accomplishments, embracing new beginnings, and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
