Chicago-based GCM Grosvenor's emerging manager seeding program, Elevate, focused on lower and middle-market buyout strategies, continues to be active and partnering with best-in-class private markets leadership talent, participating in the launch of #healthcare investment firm Invidia Capital Management, founded by former Goldman Sachs Global Head of Private Healthcare Investing, Jo N. GP seeding can be one of the more exciting and economically-rewarding investment strategies for LPs to access the outsized GP management company economics potential beyond just LP commitments as well as the opportunity to back #entrepreneurship in the private markets fund management industry by funding managers at the earlier innings of their fund management journey. This is a strategy with annual yield plus upside that I recommend all limited partners to consider as a portion of their portfolio. I know many #insurancecompanies, #familyoffices both multi and single, #privatebanks and #asian investors seem to appreciate the seeding and #gpstaking investment strategies. GCM Grosvenor's multi-decade experience in middle-market private equity enables the team to find and access emerging managers with the strongest attributes for success to deliver best-in-class net returns to limited partners. Invidia Capital Management will focus on upper-middle market investment opportunities where it believes cost containment, quality, access, and innovation are well-positioned to address some of the most pressing global healthcare challenges and, consequently, where such assets are best poised for sustained and long-term growth. As of March 31, 2024, GCM Grosvenor had about $20 billion of assets under management (“AUM”) invested with small and emerging managers and roughly $16 billion of AUM with #diverse managers. GCM Grosvenor's Elevate strategy has also backed Los Angeles-based Excolere Equity Partners – a leading buyout investor in the #education and human capital management sectors. Congratulations to all! #alternativeinvestments #privatemarkets #privateequity #seeding #fundmanagers #middlemarket #chicago #midwest #capitalmarkets #fundraising #limitedpartners #capitalmarkets #institutionalinvestors #womenled #emergingmanagers

In a recent report by Celent, alternative asset managers are exploring partnerships, mergers, acquisitions, and IPOs in 2024. Here are some key drivers identified by Celent: 1️⃣ Financing strategic growth options: IPOs provide privately owned asset managers with an opportunity to raise public capital through equity financing. This enables them to expand their capacity to fund acquisitions and maintain a financially stable balance sheet. 2️⃣ Evolving investor demand: Limited partners (LPs) are seeking comprehensive relationships with fully-integrated investment solutions providers. By organizing themselves as total solutions providers with multi-strategy capabilities, asset managers and outsourced chief investment officer (OCIO) providers can attract and deepen large strategic LP relationships. 3️⃣ Shifting business models and 'all weather' managers: Asset managers are adopting more diversified business models, driving strategic consolidation and expansions into untapped whitespace in complementary asset classes. 4️⃣ Pursuing the next leg of growth: Alternative and private asset managers are preparing for the next phase of growth through the retail and insurance segments. The adoption of private markets by insurance and retail investors is expected to accelerate significantly. 5️⃣ Flexing next-gen technology muscles: Asset managers will require technology capital to achieve greater operating leverage and scale new products. Emerging technology paradigms offer strategic opportunities for managers and investors, promoting the widespread adoption of private markets investing. The question remains: Are alternative and private asset managers and institutional investors technologically ready from a business and operational standpoint? #AlternativeInvestments #PrivateMarkets #AssetManagement #IPOs #InvestmentStrategies #FinancialInnovation #TechnologyDrivenInvesting #FutureOfInvesting https://lnkd.in/gzBUzE6E

Many firms focus on specific categories or business models when building a portfolio. But that’s now how the team at ZMC operates. They select potential assets based on two key factors: 1. There’s a macro-trend the team believes in that will drive growth for the company. (These themes are identified and vetted on an ongoing basis.) 2. The company has some “unfair advantages”—like proprietary information or a world-class team or network—that have created a defensive moat for the business against competitors. If a company has both of these elements—and ZMC feels they have value to offer—they’ll approach the asset, regardless of their industry. Dive into ZMC’s process for vetting investment themes and performing due diligence in this episode of Private Equity Value Creation. https://lnkd.in/e9e7ueqW

146 strategies, managed by 90 different firms domiciled across 12 different countries, passed the $1bn AuM threshold on Nasdaq eVestment as of 4Q23. The strategies passing this key milestone were broad, ranging from #IndianEquities to #EuropeanFixedIncome to #USLargeCapGrowth (in aggregate this included 9 #Balanced, 88 #Equity, 38 #FixedIncome and 11 #HedgeFund strategies). Passing such AuM thresholds can be important for managers as institutional investors often incorporate product AuM thresholds when screening for managers. As such this is a great time for managers to review their data to enhance visibility and review possible opportunities (since they could be eligible for greater search inclusion). Congrats to the 90 managers passing the $1bn mark! #milestones #managersearches

At MPowered Capital, we are working to alter the paradigm for diverse investment managers. Through numerous conversations with GPs and LPs alike, we have identified what we think are effective ways to address the problem of underrepresentation – ways to begin moving more institutional capital to diverse managers while also accelerating their growth. We believe the most effective way is through what we have termed GP Structured Partnerships, or “GSPs”. Our GSPs are addressing several capital funding gaps including working capital to help managers launch and scale their firms and first close fund capital. Our recent white paper explains what GSPs entail and why we believe this kind of innovative thinking and support can be so instrumental in shaping the future for diverse talent in the private alternative investment space. NexPhase Capital, LP, a New York City-based private equity firm, has been successfully managing $2.6 billion in assets under management, attracting institutional investors with its strong performance. The firm focuses on lower-middle market companies in the healthcare, software, and consumer sectors. “We spend a lot of time thinking about key macro themes and trends within each of our three verticals to identify which subsectors are the most attractive,” explained Ted Yun, Managing Partner. “We’re also growth-oriented investors. We’re looking to buy companies that we believe have tailwinds behind them and then invest in these businesses to help them turbocharge their growth with our operating playbooks.” NexPhase has 17 companies in its portfolio with two investments recently sold. The firm's thematic investing approach and operating playbook can be seen in its most recent sale. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dY9UEGxV #privateequity #diverseleadership #alternativeinvesting
